4.25" Hardy Perfect 1917 Spitfire. Workhorse not pretty.

For your consideration: 1917 Hardy Perfect Spitfire 4.25" (Please correct if inaccurate) This reel is in very usable condition, but it is by no means cherry. The foot has been modified to fit a modern reel seat. It is missing the spool screw. It has line wear on the frame. The frame has a hairline crack. The spindle was repaired at some point in it's life. The handle is not original. That was the bad. The good is: It's a huge reel that holds tons of line and works quite well. The spool, frame, and plate all match with the same mark on them. It is set up for left hand retrieve and can be switched. The crack in the frame doesn't affect it's performance at all and can easily be repaired, as well as the handle. It is a very cool old Hardy reel that you can pick up and be proud of for what it is, a workhorse. This reel is meant to be used and is not a museum piece by any way shape or form. It's almost 100 years old and still gets the better of fish when in battle. I really don't know what to ask for this reel, so suggestions would be appreciated and offers considered. I accept cc's through paypal with a small fee that they charge me. Thanks! After some research $400.00 seems to be a fair price.

I'm getting emails on how much I would take for the real. I genuinely don't want to look like a jack ass by asking too much or feel taken by asking too little. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of these reels can chime in and give an estimated value. Once again, this is a users reel, probably not a collectors reel. Thanks in advance for any input.

With the cracked case, the replaced non-Hardy handle, the line burns, and the lack of circular line guard - this would put the market value at somewhere in the region of US$350 to $450 only....

Thanks so much Mike. That sounds reasonable. I'll split it up and ask $400.00.

Still a very serviceable & 'cool' reel at that!
