Wanted: beginner spey outfit

Looking to get into this addiction called spey. Went to a spey casting event in Pulaski, NY called Speynation and fell in love with it.

Im looking to find a used outfit to fit my budget. Maybe you want to upgrade or get rid of your old rod collecting dust, I can assure you it will get plenty of use. I have been single hand casting for years but getting into spey is giving me the same addicting feeling i felt when i first started out.

so if you have anything you wanna try and sell me shoot me a message.

Thanks!!!

Stoltron

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

Low Budget

I know there is no such thing as low budget in this sport but I am there right now

Rods: looking for an echo or buelah mid range priced rod. I know they are about $350 new. 12 of 13 ft 7 or 8 weight. somthing used

reels: probably a used Lamson or somthing that I can upgrade later on while i work on casting

line: looking for Scandinavian style line, but I guess its hard to have a preference at this point.

Thanks for the help Everyone

With an Echo Solo and a Prism reel you can get set up with a multi tip short head spey line, or a skagit or scandi head with running line, turn key for less then $450.00 shipped to your door. That is a new rod with a no fault no BS warranty.

Buying USED can be rewarding; however rod warranties vary. TFO & I think(?) Sage don't require original ownership. Orvis and T&T does - so if you bought a $900 rod used for $400 & snap a section, you might be out of the actual repair cost, maybe $300, or so - is it really worth it? I'm addicted to T&T, so I get their stuff new. Just my $0.02

Do you have a rod length or line weight in mind? Have you decided on what style of line system you think you'd like?

Rods

MJC,

I casted multiple rods last weekend from the Orvis Helios 13ft 8 wt, beluah 12'5" 7 wt, and a echo TR 13 ft 6 wt.

After testing those rods I came to feel the best fit for me was the echo but in a 7 or 8 weight with an Airflo Scandi head. Looking for somthing to handle steelheading

thoughts?

Echo "TR" 7130-4 (13'-7/8), Ridge 30# running line, Compact Scandi 510 or 540, 10' floating poly leader.

Echo "Solo" 7129-4 (12'9"-7/8) Ridge 30# running line, Compact scandi 510, 10' floating poly leader.

If you want to go down some replace the floating poly leader with a sinking model.

Poppy has a Dec Hogan Echo 13' 7 wt. for sale on his used classified section. Echo makes really nice rods and this model is a very good one. Poppy is great to deal with and I would take him up on his offer to help you. The guy has a lot of expierence in putting people into rods and he may have the BEST SERVICE in the industry. From personal expierence I can tell you he is a great guy to deal with. By the way, look at the Airflo Compact Scandis with that rod ......... I really liked that combo when i cast it. Dave

Is this just another excuse for me to buy more rods ?
