Absolutely tremendous rod, surprised it hasn’t been snatched up. Even after all these years, there are few if any 14’ 9wts that match it. The 13’ 7wt 3 piece is the darling of the DH series but this rod is it’s bigger brother and handles anything from full sink skagits to long lines with grace and aplomb. It has the beef to handle big water fresh chinook with lice, not to mention any steelhead that swims, and can be comfortably fished all day, unlike many 15 footers. If I didn’t have one of these, with a spare tip, I’d buy this rod in a heartbeat!

Your right about the older T&T rods, I fish 1307 every year, it keeps going, I havent really found a rod I like more. The 1107 DH is still the best short spey out there, the 1308 is a good scandi rod, but the RIO Gamechanger 575grains is brilliant on it, and compliments 525Skagit Max on the 1307 for fishing deep runs. The 1206 is a gorgeous summer Deschutes, Grand Rhonde rod. I cast scores of rods at the spey claves and except for the Igniter, Sage X, and some of the boutique companies these rods are still top. Problem is they aren't cool, the spey hipsters dont want them because they dont know how to cast and they dont see them as appropriate fashion accessories to their $20 Cubanos, Stetsons, and new Clackacrafts. Hopefully the Clearwater runs will recover and I can get out and fish the 1409 with CND GPS 8/9 line.

I purchased a 1409-3 from Poppy, and if I was still to fish big water (or kings) I'd never have let it go. The rod was a beautifully crafted howitzer! Lovely blank, nice down locking seat, and indestructible rod tube that would discourage the largest of airline bag handlers. What's there not to love about this big water rod?
