Anybody want a Penn Senator 112-3/0?

A friend sent me this because he knows I fish but not in what way. Some friend of his gave him this reel and he passed it on to me. Although I admire the solid construction and mid-century modern industrial styling, I have no earthly use for it.

I gather this reel is targeted at ocean fishing. I'm pretty sure some of you folks are into that. If you've got a legitimate use for it let me know and we'll work out a deal based on a donation to your favorite charity (and no, your beer fund doesn't qualify) and you paying for the shipping. Tell me a bit about how you plan to use it so I can enjoy the reel vicariously.

Maybe it will balance out a 16 footer.

That thing would balance a 26 footer. It looks new? A deal like that should bring some good mojo at the very least.

My dad had a few of that style back in the 60's. I got to use them many times fishing off the piers and barges in southern California back then. There still in use in my neck of the woods by spoonbill (american paddlefish) snaggers. A work horse of a reel used by many including charter boats.

Penn ...

Many a great morning was had on a" Party" boat fishing off Ft. Lauderdale/Deerfield Beach Fla. with a 6' boat rod and a Senator spooled up with 40lb. mono. When my skills improved I moved up to a longer rod and a smaller Penn Surfmaster casting reel on the piers...incredible to think you could buy this reel new in 1960 for $20.00...how much our economy has changed...

Someone will want it.

I've been on those "head" boats. A blast for the most part.
