If I'm not mistaken (wouldn't be the first time) that Clan was made by B&W. FWIW, the new 17' Walker is unholy.

I see you're a shvingger too!

Gitkrunk- have you tried the 17' Walker that came out late fall last year.

I approached Gene from B&W USA around spring/ summer looking for a long rod to throw at Clearwater in the Fall. I tested the 16'6" and 17"6' Walker rods at the Sandy clave. I mentioned to him if he can build a 17' that has the swing weight of the 16'6" and the power of the 17'6", it would be a rod that would appeal many.

Anyone tried this 17' against the 16'6" and 17'6" Walker (besides anyone affiliated with B&W of course)?

NB: I ended up getting a custom 18'2" rod made. I line it with sub 800 grain heads (floating around 712 grains, sinking around 780 grains) and it throws a dickens. It is now my Winter and Summer rod- modern regression action.

Just an FYI, Bruce and Walker did indeed build the blanks for Clan Rods for many years. A previous post stated they did not build Clan blanks just Carron rods and blanks but they did both.

Thank you.

Options outside B&W may be limited these days, though, I've been surprised at what comes out of people's closets.

CTS could probably build you something. So could Bob Meiser. For some change.

If it were me I'd just get the B&W Walker

I’m no walker fan, so I’d rather stay away from them. I wish more people still made long rods 😞

Probably your best bet would be to contact the independent rod guys.
Bob Meiser, Gary Anderson or Kerry Burkheimer. Can't really go wrong with any one.
It won't be cheap but I bet one or more of them can fix you up.
BTW, have you looked at CND?

The Gloomis 17' greaseliner is a really nice option. they appear on 2nd hand market every so often. good luck in your search.
