Wanted: A reel + line for SAGE 7141-4

If you have a reel of suitable size for a SAGE 7141 rod that you may be willing to trade for a like new Okuma Aventa centerpin reel, please send me a PM.

big stick

i have that rod and it fishes easily like a 9w or greater. i have nothing to trade but info in that best balance match for that rod for me was a reel 11-13oz before putting a line on it. just my 2c

Thank you Tie-Dye-Fly-Guy !
What lines are you using with this rod? I want to be able to go far and deep with big streamers.

Some guys recommended the Windcutter 8-9-10 or 7-8-9. Would the Skagit Versi-Tip line be suitable as well?

I have never fished a spey rod, so I am just looking for a line easy to cast to minimize initial frustration

I used to have a Sage 3600D on my 7141-4. GREAT MATCH of rod to reel. You can find them used at a very decent price on ebay. I've still got my 3600D and it's not on any rod, but I just can't seem to part with it just yet.

There is one 3400D on ebay right now but I am starting to think that the reel is not of great importance as I may be able to add weight to the handle to balance the rod. Most reels are lighter than 10oz so I have little chance of buying a reel that is too heavy. The line though is of concern. Should I get a Windcutter, MidSpey, GrandSpey, Skagit or Scandi ? Would it be best to stay with Rio, or SA and Airflo are still going to be OK?

Also I wonder if I can get a basic floating line and then add my own tips to it.

3400 is really small capacity wise for that rod, from a line standpoint. remember this is a 9 weight rod in a 7 package... you will need a 3500 as a minimum. PM me if you need some reels and lines for that rod, i own one and it is one of my favourites.

Tight Lines!

PM sent. I am still looking, but considering a few limitations, it is mostly data gathering I'm doing.

It would be nice to turn my 2 extra centerpins into big spey reels and the 3 extra regular flylines into spey lines, but where did I leave my magic wand?
