Edward Vom Hofe 2/0 reel

It is with mixed emotions that I'm listing this but if it can find a loving owner, it is probably for the best. This is not a standard fly reel but rather the "universal" model that Vom Hofe made for cross duty on either fly or gear rods. I have matched it to a 1307-3 T&T and it balances the rod well.

According to some reserach I have done this was the model favored by Papa Hemingway and his pals for chasing bonefish in Cuba. It will hold a 6-8 weight spey line and adequate backing. Like most of the Vom Hofe reels this one is built of German Silver with ebonite (hard rubber) side plates. It of course has the trademark reverse S-handle and the oil caps that show the maker and date of patent. In this case, the patent was 1896. It also has a long foot that will not fit all modern rods. (It will fit my 9 and 10 weight T&Ts but not the models with the smaller reel seats.)

This is an early model as shown by the intricate metal work on the oil caps and drag switch that was missing on the models after the turn of the century.
She is in great shape for her age with only a small chip out of one side-plate (see pictures). No cracks in the sideplates or pitting or grooving of the pillars. She boasts a strong drag (stronger than I'm used to with my Perfects) and a silent in and out. She is RHW and this is not reversible. The reel is also professionally engraved on the sideplate with initals and number.

She was recently serviced by Bil Archuleta of Archuleta Reel Works in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Like I mentioned, I have mixed feelings and am tempted to keep her just to cherish it but I prefer a LHW reel than growls.

Price - $725 + shipping

Price Reduction

I would prefer this goes to someone who would appreciate it for its age and history instead of to the large auction site.

Price reduced to $650 + shipping.

Well it is time to move this old lady over to the auction site. Last chance before she goes. If you desire to have a true classic in your quiver, let me know. Priced to move at $500 + shipping.
