JW Young 3 1/2" Wide Drum Fly Reel

For sale is a JW Young 3 1/2" Wide Drum Reel. It's a Hardy Perfect Copy, and is in great, working condition. I believe it to be a Model 10B. It has it's original, unfiled reel foot. The check system sounds great, and adjusts through the range of tension easily and smoothly. The handle turns freely on the spool as well. Right hand wind, but I believe the pawls can be flipped to make it left hand as well. This would be a great reel for both the collector and fisherman alike. $375. Feel free to message or email with any questions!

Do you have a better picture of the spring & pawl set-up for the 'flipped pawl' to make it LHW ....?

Mike,

I don't have a picture of the reel set up for left hand, bet here's a better picture of the springs and pawls - they're set up for right hand now. I have a Hardy Perfect that was set up for LHW, and I flipped the pawls over and it's a proper RHW now. I can play with the reel when I get home and see what I can figure out. Thanks!

Thanks, that's a better picture - still can't see if the pawls are asymmetric though.

This is one of my favorite reels I own. I has enough weight to balance out my 13ft 7/8 versa Spey. I don't think it can be converted over though. Someone else would be able to sender that question better then I.

The reel weighs in at 10 ounces. The reel seat is about 3 3/16". It has a bit of spool wobble from side to side, but its definitely a fishable condition reel. After playing with the pawls a bit, I can't seem to make it switch over to LHW, but I'm no expert in vintage reels by any means. The guy I bought it from said that you could switch it from left to right. Let me know if anyone needs any more pictures or has any questions! Thanks,

Ryan
