the tube fly by Ken Sawada
I was so looking forward to getting my hands on this book and it did not disappoint!
this one is really cool! in the beginning of the book it has lot's of step by steps, once again with amazing photographs. no shortage of some real crazy patterns in this book. again his use of materials is really something!
now in saying that, he has a large amount of tubes with tented wings, many of these would look great on a shank. the vast majority of these patterns will look like a pencil once they are swimming. long tails and hackles will give them movement, but there is nothing that I saw that looks anything like Ed's intruder. so, not much to ''prop'' up and give the fly more movement around the collar.
with the flip of every page there is another pattern that just makes you go "wow, ain't seen that before"
so what I am walking away with is his incredible use of materials and a very open mind on how many ways you can step outside the box when tying.
I do think this would be a good book to have but again I would not pay the $350 plus some people ask for.
