John Nagy's 4th edition tube flies book

I ran into two members of a local fly fishing club and they are placing a group rate for this book (savings only in shipping). They asked me if I wanted in on the savings. I told them I would get back after quering on this site.

Does anyone have a take on this book for relevancy in fishing the GL area?

I read his article in Fly fisherman and it piqued my interest in tube flies for GL area.

Appreciate any book owners/ reviewers response.

BTW: Does it also cover articulated flies?

Hey Sushi,
Is this the Erie Guide he writes or is it a dedicated tube fly book? I know in the new edition of his Lake Erie Steelhead Guide he has a greatly expanded fly section with quite a bit about tube flies in it.

A search on Amazon didn't bring anything up about a book about tube flies by him.

4th

The new book is the 4th edition of his fishing for steelhead book. The 4th edition contains a huge section on tube flies.

One of the best sources of info on tubes you will find

buy it

What I know about John Nagy

Thanks Manchu and Speyman. My introduction to this book was John's article in the latest Fly Fisherman magazine. My second intro was a review at a Tube flies website (CTF) that showered it with glow.

Speyman, the book club coodinator picked one up from a local fishing show and your statement is consistent with his findings- a great book for tube flies. Although it is largely on tubes, apparently it has recipes for non tubes as well.

Manchu, I heard he is from Pittsburgh fishing the GL area, esp Lake Erie and tribs. I'm sure what works for him could also work for the other Great Lakes, but that's my thinking.

I would think they would work also. We have a few copies in the shop I work in and there is quite a bit of info on how to make different tubes and I think there are a few chapters dedicated to just that. I think it would be a book well worth the money.

....'well worth the money'....

Thanks Manchu, if I put this book next to Henrik's Scandinavian DVD, will it be safe to say they both will belong to the 'well worth the money' club?

Hey Sushi,
I think overall for steelhead fishing in general it is worth the money. If looking for a comprehensive book on tube flies I would look elsewhere. Though in my experience, this book has the most steelhead tube fly info I have seen.

If you ask my wife, everything fly fishing to me is worth the money so take it for what it's worth!
