Dec Hogan: A Passion for Steelhead

Pretty cover, eh? Well, I've never actually seen the book.

For over a year Wild River Press has been taking orders. Dec Hogan and Tom Pero made personal promises for publication dates that were not met. A few chapters were released on the web in PDF format. And Amazon is offering it for nearly half price with free shipping.

I think that the whole process stinks. What conclusion would you come to?

Anyone have any thoughts on the content? Sorry you lads got ripped
I think the picture has been used before for a Wild Steelhead and Salmon magazine cover.
i really liked Decs DVD so i think this will be added regardless of any shady dealings.

Dec's Book.

Bert........gotta agree. Been waiting since last November and still no book. Pretty sad situation and probably my last order from Wild River Press.
Too bad since it is probably a good book.

Dec's book

Just got an email from Amazon.com, that the book is finally on it's way to me. Originally was supposed to be shipped in July, but guess there was a hold up somewhere.

Sure looking forward to reading it, but certainly don't feel that I have been ripped off in any way. Just had to wait a bit longer for it is all.

The book I ordered back in 2/06 never arrived in my mail box. Wild River has not replied to my inquiry about the order. They did manage to bill my card for $65.00. Seems that's a very profitable business!

I just finished reading the book. It is a tour de force. It may be the best single steelhead book currently in print.

IMHO,
David

I got mine from amazon yesterday. I've been jumping around a bit but I'm already about 2/3's of the way through it... really excellent book. Photography is phenomenal. Bill McMillian's forward is a beautiful essay in it's own right. The book is technical but very readable and chock full of valuable info. I've never met dec but it seems like he would be a blast to fish with. Peter Soverel finishes the book with a sobering chapter on the decline of wild steelhead in Western North America...depressing but in my opinion necessary reading for any steelheader. All in all a fantastic book and IMO worth the long wait.

That's the frustrating part. I really want to read this book. Wild River managed to send shipments to the fly shops and Amazon, but those of us who ordered and PAID FULL PRICE last year get bupkis!

Dec's Book.

Well I did get an immediate response from Mr. Pero with a ship date of my book. Lo and behold it arrived today. First impression is that it looks to be a pretty darn nice book. Should occupy my evenings this weekend after a day of grouse hunting.
