Airflo Skagit comp 510 to 570 grains, depending on what works best on the rod for you. Tips anywhere from 8 to 15 feet. Again- totally dependent on what length works best and how long you can handle.

Switch Rod help

Please bear with me with explanation if I'm not clear. I bought a Beulah 6/7Classic Switch rod with a Echo Reel. The fly shop owner set me up with a Scientific Anglers Dragon Tail 120ft shooting line along with a Airflow Tactical Shooting Head, Skagit switch float. 390 grains, and I think a T14 tip. I need help to understand all of this. I took a lesson in his back yard but when I hit the water I couldn't do jack. Over head cast is great but the rest is poor at best.
I use my Rio Virsa tips with my standard 7wt. What does the T14 mean. Explain the language please. I also have been looking at what Beulah recommends on the web site. Am I to heave for a virgin or what. HELP PLEASE

Kevin

Walt,
I'm a big fan of Airflo Skagit Switch heads on rods 12'6 and under. I even fish them on rods as long as 13'3. Not knowing Bloke rods, my best guess would be a 510 gr or a 540 gr Skagit Switch. If your rod is slower action, go 510 gr -If its faster action I'd line it with a 540 gr.

Happy casting!

Hey Tom

Don┤t you think it will be difficult with a skagitnewbee to use a skagit switch on a 12┤6┤┤ rod. I think it will be difficult not to blow the anchor? Or how do one (I) avoid that?

I use Skagit shorts (20') on rods to 13'3" with no problems - just really need to let off the gas and keep your stroke very compact and don't put in a lift at the end of your D loop formation - it is almost effortless casting short heads
