In my younger days all I did was fly fish.
In later years as my health failed, I got a boat and resorted to fishing for Walleye and Bass. I have always missed being on the river.
My health has improved in most part thanks to Medical Marijuana. My use of prescription pain meds has diminished greatly and I have more energy. It has helped me lose weight and I now feel ready to take back to the river.
I purchased a spey rod (CND Custom 14-foot Spey, 3-piece, 9/10) and need help choosing line. I am hoping my Orvis Vector (large arbor) 7/8 will hold the larger lines used in spey fishing. I realize I will be resorting to superlines as backing due to the limited capacity of the reel, and I can live with that.
I hope you are not all going to tell me the reel is too small, I cannot afford a pricey spey reel at this time. The Vector really is huge looking to me. I just have to make it work. I paid big bucks for it back in my working days.
I am confused about just what I need. Is there a line that just goes on the reel, or do I need line and a head? I saw some Greys Platinum Specialist WF10 Medium Sink 3 Spey Line on Ebay. Would that alone do the trick? The list of Rio
stuff had my head spinning. No, not from the weed, thank you.
A little help to simplify what I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.
I like fishing the Au Sable river and the St Joseph, but have fished many of the Lake Michigan tribs as well. My target is primarily Steelhead and Salmon.
I hope my use of the MM doesn't turn you off.
