Lining a St Croix 15 foot 10/11 line rod for first timer

Hello! First post here also.

I have just gotten my hands on my first spey rod from a friend who never used this rod. Its a St Croix Avid A151011.3 which is a 15 foot 10/11 line rod.

I have never used a spey rod this size before. Lots of experience with fly fishing with one handers, lakes specifically. I live on an island so i dont anticipate a lot of river fishing but have heard of a lot of stories of catching salmon off of the shore, fishing kelp beds etc. Thought id give this a try and do have a popular river a ferry away.

I have looked up the RIO spey line recommendations for the older rods like this one. Like the previous poster, im a little overwhelmed and not sure where to start. I have seen some of these versi-tip lines and like the flexiblity but am not sure that is a good step for a beginner. Its just the rod so i need a Reel as well but figure im going to be matching the reel to the length of line i need

Thanks in advance for the help!

Rio Skagit Flight 650 versitip should fit the bill. A 10/11 will require at least 700 grains to load and I didn't see a heavier head, but I'm guessing the tips will make up the difference.
A short head at 700 to 750 grains with a selection of floating and sink-tips would be good for over-head or spey casts and stripped presentations to feeding salmon.
