Single spey and double spey cast

Hello All! Been awhile since I have posted but have been browsing the Forum somewhat often. I was recently teaching a left hand beginner how to fly-fish and he asked how to recast your line from the downstream position at the end of the drift. I showed him the C-Cast but wanted to show the single or double spey cast to get the presentation back to the upstream position with out false casting and pivoting his stance to deliver the fly at an upstream approach. I have been looking for a diagram or illustration of this cast for him. Do any of you know where I may find such a diagram or illustration. I won't be working with this gentleman any time soon but want to give him some visual learning aids. Thank you!

If you dont find anything in the next few days I have a magazine article which has diagrams of the D spey left hand up which I will gladly post you if you Pm me your details. I find the snake roll lift ideal for the circumstances you describe though. TH

Jeff Putnam has a DVD out on Switch Rod Casting Techniques that has some excellent video presentations of the single spey, double spey, snake roll, roll cast, etc. It is the best instructional DVD I have seen. I highly recomment it. FYI his web site is jpflyfishing.com. Good luck and enjoy! Tight Lines.

The following books (listed in no particular order) have what you are looking for:

Two Handed Fly Casting by A Buhr

Spey Casting by Simon Gawesworth

A Passion for Steelhead by Dec Hogan

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

+1

I think Poppy also has this DVD as I got one from him a while back and I agree, it's very good.
