Thumbs up From one newbe to the Next.....

Brother newbe a newbe myself I must tell you if you live in the great lakes area, you must attend next years Spey Fest in Newaygo, Mi. The Things you will see!!!! The demonstrators as well as the attendees, are incredable casters. If can not attend this one there are several others in different parts of the country. It will give you the oppertunity to try different rods, lines and reels.
It is amazing that I have been trying to spey cast for the last three months, and actually until today never actually made a real spey cast. Today I actually felt the "bloody" rod load. Which was an incredable feeling of accomplishment. I am well on my way to becoming a spey fanatic. If you can get to a clave, go. I now I drove 4 hours to get there and I would do it again. Might even drive further.

Hi Scout,

I completely agree with your comments on the value of spey claves. Living in Alaska I fly four hours or more to attend spey claves.

Another good event to attend is the FFF Conclave held at the end of July each year. While this is not a spey clave and it is more instructional. Workshops are given on spey casting by some of the best spey instructor in the US and world. This last year, I spent four hours with Dennis Grant and Ally Gowans learning to how to make spey casting easier with less effort. Workshops and demonstrations have been invaluable in my learning the finer aspects of spey casting.
