I really like Spey to Z. It starts w/ single hand fundamentals and then progresses to spey fundamentals. It covers kiss n' go casts, Scandanavian casts, and Skagit casting.

DVD - Fly Casting for Better Fly fishing

A new English DVD by Kjell Ove Grimsmo covers spey casting techiniques using a single handed rod in very simple and clear instructions. It also has some great footage of fishing in Norway, Ponoi in Russia, Carribean and Rio Gallegos in Argentina.

You can get detailed information Kjell Ove's website, and watch the trailer to get an idea of the casting instruction and fishing footage.

You can order directly from his website at:

Spey to Z

The local shop has this video and 2 or 3 more, makes me think there is more Spey interest in my area than I orgininally thought.

I think the 3 disc set from Rio is a great starter kit. There are hours of great instruction. I think for the 'next' step the video they shot at the Spey-O-Rama is awesome, I think it is the Art of Spey Casting.

Derek Brown

greetings,
I 'd agree with all above recommendations, and would add the Spey Masterclass video by Derek Brown, my all-time favorite, the one that first got me on the right track (or at least roughly in that direction ). Strictly longline traditional Spey casting, but a great foundation, IMHO. I still fire it up occasionally, after 'one of those days' when my casting starts to fall apart. Derek's graceful casting is worth the price of admission. I have the VHS, not sure if it ever made it to DVD.

Simon does a very good job on this Video...and has improved the wording for those entering the world of Spey...even the White rod..Much has changed since Rio's first Video..Now that the Skagit style is growing in popuarity there are many more casters casting Cack handed ..shall we say it is now appropriate to do this!
Mike...I have Scott MacKenzies new dvd coming your way after the Calgary show...the timeing is very correct...especially considering the increase in popularity of "the Long Rod"...15-17 footers are becoming more visable again...
Was out fishing the Stamp River today...river was rising...water getting coloured(CDN)..Swinging weighted intruders...hooked a few old Coho...and landed a beautiful 4-5 lb. Cuttie! Magnificant fish...was useing the 13'6" Beulah and re-discovered a completely different action...wonderful tip on this rod>>>able to span the River with Snowbee's Scan' Short Head Spey Ultra Fast Sink...

Something rings in my mind that the format used for DVD's, VCR tapes, etc., is a different set up than what we use on this side of the Pond. Someone step in here and correct me if I'm wrong.

format

Fred, The formats are PAL for the UK and some other countries. The US format is NTSC. Suspect that the DVD in question is in PAL.

PAL stereo- only option

If you click on the link, and 'Buy Now', it only shows Pal Stereo as the only option.

Some DVD players are univeral players, playing both formats. Chk with your manual.
