Casting Instructors...

I have wanted to learn how to spey cast for a while now, but the books are very confusing when I don't know what all the terms mean. It was recommended that I find a teacher to jump start my learning curve. Does anyone know of a good instrutor in New York? I live near the capital district but I am willing to travel if it will really help. Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

The Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) is the organization that certifies casting instructors. For spey casting, you will want a Two Handed Casting Instructor (THCI)

You can find all the certified instructors by searching the FFF website at fedflyfishers.org.

Best of luck

Juro is not in NY but he is not far away.

I believe my list of THCI instructors for the USA is up to date

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

You might try Topher Browne. He's an FFF Certified Master Casting Instructor, and he, along with Way Yin and Greg Pearson, is responsible for the excellent DVD, "Spey to Z". I spent a day with him in southern Maine in September. He is a great teacher, and what I learned was well worth the trip. He is a member of this board and can be contacted via the board.
