For floating line set-ups, I use a very similar leader construction to sinktip.
15 to 18' leader length, 3 piece stepped-down leader starting with between 30 and 20lb bs, intermediate 20 to 15lb, and tippet 15 to 10lb. If I go with lighter tippet, I add a small 2' section of 8lb.
Although I have relied on Maxima chameleon for many years, any good make of nylon mono will suffice, but I have used the more hardy fluorocarbon (Seaguar ACE) for tippets in Russia where rock abrasion may be an issue.
Wetted double clinch knots have never let me down for leader to leader connections, although double surgeon's knots are faster to do.
Maxima UG is a good choice, however, as I used this on a recent BC trip.
