river right, river left cast......

i have finally gotten out to cast a 7wt 10'3 switch rod, still waitin to get my hands on a 13/14 foot rod , and i have come to the conclusion that i can cast when im on river left but have a hard time casting from river right. is this a common thing or do you have to change the casting style? do you have a weak side so to speak and a strongside cast? i dont know but maybe 1 speycaster so dont have much to go on.
thanks bhudda

Yeah we all have a weak side which is usually our off hand.

For river left you have a few options if you want to cast right hand up on right bank. A double spey or a snake roll are the casts you will want to learn. My preference is the snake roll as it is a less noisy cast.

If the wind is blowing upstream though you ae going to need to learn to cast left handed and use the single or snap t/circle like you do left bank, right hand up. You can also cast right handed on this side or 'cack' handed. A nice thing about casting back handed in this situation is coming across your body helps control your hands from over rotating and for some casting this way produces their most powerful casts. It does not work well for me and I cast left handed but check out Kush's reverse snake roll if you get a chance

Rich ive been wanting to go for a couple years but i own a hair salon in seattle and saturday is the busiest day of the week for me now if it were a sunday , i think Aaron would get sick of me. ive caught the bug now so someone somewhere sometime will get the " im contagious or something and you dont want your kids getting that do ya!" ,that will clear a saturday off the books quick
the one thing im catching myself doing is THINKING i have a 14 footer in my hand when in deed its all of 10'3" and my motion is to big to set up the cast, blah blah....... then i focus and realize that what im seeing and what im doing is WAY DIFFERENT!
i SEE or ENVISION myself as Dana
as for doing,im DOING no justice to the spey cast
i have alot to learn and look forward to tuning my cast to work for me. this website is breath of fresh air , thank you Dana

Private lesson

Contact Aaron about a private lesson when it fits your schedule. It will be money well spent and will get you started with fewer "bad habits" to unlearn.
