Just the way you do it Loc, with one minor difference: When I place the assembled upper sections on the butt section, I leave the group mis-aligned on the butt towards my threading side on purpose. That keeps the guides closer to me rather than under the rod as threading progresses, so I don't have to force the reel to lay flat on the grass.
When I'm done threading I straighten the assembly on the butt, of course.
