Jack I believe I have the contact info for what I consider a qualified spey instructor close to the LA metro area. That's about as close as I can get. I'll e-mail it to you in the morning.

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

Orange County close enough?

Try Bob Marriott's Fly shop in Fullerton. They sponsor some classes for single handed rods and sell spey, so they should know someone in the area. I wasn't into spey yet when I lived in California so can't be of more help.

This is a good idea as the instructor I had in mind used to manage that store.
