For the second year, I was fortuituously in the Medford-Ashland area for a Saturday "2 Hands @ Tou Velle" event. With Gary Anderson, Bob Meiser, and Beulah all close by, this Southern Oregon spot is a magnet for fine, fine spey rod and line making magic (and great fishing too).
Excellent spey presenters, all. But what I will remember most are these two things. First, while Mr. Anderson's amazing wares were centerpieced at this event for us eager admirers, two other fellow spey industry principals manned the food prep (set-up, griling, serving, clean-up) for six+ hours in the sun -- Bob Meiser and Steve Godshall. Second, Lee Davidson's talk focused not on products or grainweights but on how we all can best interest and introduce spey fishing to young people. Spey legacy. As I looked around at my many fellow sexagenarians (it's not what you think, although some of us dream of times past) in the crowd, the choice of subject matter could not be more on point. The collegiality and unselfishness of our industry icons (and Spey Pages sponsors) was my top take-away from last Saturday.
Congrats and thanks to Mr. Anderson and all involved for this Rogue River delight.
