Guideline fly fishing “boot camps”

GUIDELINE FLY FISHING “BOOT CAMPS”

Main Event: Saturday, May 14, Henning Park, Newaygo, Michigan, on the Muskegon River
9:30AM-4:00PM (EDT).

This will be a showcase of Guideline Products www.guidelineflyfish.com and Staff. This free event will give you an opportunity to test their latest products and receive instruction from their top flight staff.
All attendees will receive a discount coupon for Guideline Rods and Guideline Rod and Line purchases from the Great Lakes Fly Fishing Company, coupon valid for 30 days after the event.

During this event, through a series of small workshops, we will demonstrate both Single and Two-Handed Rods, and Common Casting faults and how to correct them. Our instructors will show you how to get the best from your Guideline Fly Lines. Peter Humphreys will tie Templedog Tube Flies on FITS Tubing.

Come and cast the New Triple Density and MMD Lines. You may have seen them in the local fly shops and read about them on forums: now’s your chance to test them! Feel the difference when both the rod and line are in balance and complement one another.

Try out the Guideline Switch Rod with the Extending Handle, designed so you can “switch” from Single Handed to Two Handed with ease. Cast the New 4 Piece Rods. Check out our new Power Taper “Ready To Go” lines in both Long and Short.

Beginners very welcome! Let one of our team show you the basics of fly fishing.
If you are thinking about, new to, or experienced in fly fishing, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Bob Braendle, FFF, MCI, Guideline Power Team, will represent Great Lakes Fly Fishing with rods and lines for sale on site.

Peter Humphreys, FFF, MCI,THCI Guideline Power Team, will demonstrate tying Templedog Tubes, and discuss Common Casting faults and how to correct them.

Doug Hintzman, FFF, CI, Guideline Guide Staff Member, will show you how to get the best from your Guideline Lines with an all-encompassing workshop covering different species and different situations.

Doug Taylor, Guideline Power Team: If you should bring your own rod, Doug will carefully match your rod with the correct weight Guideline line.

Guideline Fly Fishing will sponsor a Casting Competition. The rules and prizes for this will be posted separately and the Competition will be organized by Joe Exl. [ Watershed]

These will be simple low key events catering to a small interested group.

Registration for the casting competition will open the morning of the boot camp and close at noon. All entries will go into a hat for a random draw. The name will be posted in the order in which the contestant is to cast. The casting lane will be set up after the day's presentations/intruction is over.

Equipment
All contestants will use a 14' 8" 9/10 Le Cie with a 50' MMD floating line. Two duplicate setups will be available- one for the contestant on deck and the other at the casting station line.

Rules
Each contestant will get three practice casts.
They will then perform four competition casts.
Casts can be off either shoulder and must include a change of direction as delineated by marker buoy.
The two best casts will be averaged for score (average length).

Prizes
1st place - LPXe 11' Switch Rod # 6/7 MSRP $420.00
2nd place - Reelmaster LA #9/11 MSRP $170.00
3rd place - 50' #8/9 MMD line MSRP $79.00

The rod is a 9/10 LeCie. I had the opportunity to cast the combo today and she is a launching pad. If the wind isn't howling in our faces we could see some really nice distances put in.

I don't get to compete this year since I'm running the comp. No threat to the big boys anyway.

It will be fun. That rod is a boomer. A good socialist competition.
