Outdoor Sports Show in Chicago???

Anyone from the Indiana/Michigan/Wisconsin/Illinios area going to this?

I have that weekend off (sat/29th), need something to do and I think it will fit the bill. I know it is not fly fishing orientated, but it is something to do.

If anyone is going, maybe meet up and do a meet and greet. Not trying to get hot spots, but just simple info to get me started around the area, besides Salt Creek. Boy did I get dirty looks when the fly rod came out down there. Especially, when I released two nice 5-6lb steelbows, but kept one silver for the BBQ late last year.

Want to get the drift boat out in Michigan, just don't know where to go. Even if the boat not needed, just good parking spot, then I can go from there.

Thanks

Thank you for the PM's coming in. Hated really having to move from the PNW.

It is not that is bad out here, just have to travel more to get to places, where in Washington I could fish three rivers within my out of bounds area for recall. Here it has been much harder for me to go, either do to location (miles away from unit) or time. Things are slowly getting better at unit and hopefully this year be able to get more time off for fishing.

Hope to get to meet some of the great lakes anglers soon.

William

Give it time. After 38yrs in the Chicago metro area, you'll discover it truly sucks.
If my chosen career path allowed some sort of "relocation" flexibility, the only thing left of me would be the fog left after last night's chili
15yrs to go until retirement, and than I'm out

Summer downtown is lovely. I could even stand winter if the closest decent fishing wasn't 90 miles away and another substantial drive past that to better fishing.
The warm water fishing around here isn't bad, in fact, I'm within forty minutes of all kinds of good smallie and carp fishing.
Whenever i get too glum about access to steelhead, I just think about all the poor guys that drive up from Indianapolis and other far away places for a day trip to the Joe and Trail. In the end, I guess my lot in life isn't so bad.
Although when I retire, I am out

Make that drive all the time, well into Michigan at least. 2 1/2 hours to the St. Joe and just over 5 1/2 to the Muskegon. I do day trips to them all the time, its really not that bad.

Well?? not a big Chicago fan ,, from the town, football team,, anything really ,,WAY to big of a chunk of cement for this Green Bay farm kid. Just keep on mind Spey Co is based just to the north of you. We have some nice rivers hidden up in the sticks. PM me I will be more happy to show you around.

Hmmm...your user profile says your located in SW Michigan. Curious indeed. Either your geography is off or you're a poser little brother.

I do count myself lucky to be a short drive from several small tribs here in NWI. It may not be the PNW or all fly waters but I'll take it. I can even drive down towards Indy for some smallmouth action where my brother usually schools me...little f'er. Man those things hit like a ton of bricks.

I do nearly all my steelheading up there in that area so that's why I list the location that way. No need to be picky big brother.

And by the way next time you come down this way I will be putting on a clinic, so make sure you have plenty of paper to take notes.
