3rd Annual Event For Cancer looks to be Promising in Massachusetts

As the spring steelhead and trout season is about to begin, many items and services are falling into place for the 3rd annual Deerfield River Spey Day.
This year we have added single handed flishing as well to go along with a cast of two handers on the water. Well know fly fishing youth instructor, John Troiano will be on the water offering a day of learning and enjoyment. Again this year, Pat Garner will not only talk bamboo, but will demonstrate on the water bamboo fly rod casting and fishing.
My good friend Keith, if he is able to be in the states for that time, has also offered his time for two-handed. I am waiting on a couple more two handers, when they are able to commit for the event, I will post it up as well.

Join us for the day that benefits cancer survivors and Reel Recovery.

but I live in Washington and fish the Skagit, Hoh, Sauk, etc. I've also fished the Deerfield in Mass. Not sure where a spey rod would be necessary to fish the Deerfield. Beautiful river, but not "spey-worthy" from what I've seen.
KK, there are very few rivers where a "spey" is "necessary," but they sure are fun!

Spey 1, good luck with the clave. That's a beautiful area(I lived in the area when I was young), I wish I could join you all.

Unreal!!!

KK you are clueless.Walt puts endless hours into this of his own time and money to help some poor bastard that is in recovery,or not, from a s#$!! ass disease and all you come up with is the Deerfield is not "spey-worthy":tsk_tsk:

Hate to sound redundant but CLUELESS is are polite as I can get.

Walt,Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!I hope it works out that we can get there for the day.

Scott Anderson

PS. I will bring a couple of SPEY rods and the SWITCH if it works out.God I hope I'm worthy of it.

thanks for the positive feed back. been here on the Deerfield all my life and before spey, I always had fish that teased me just out of reach. Now it's fun and relaxing to know that in mostly all conditions, the Deerfield Riiver can be fished effectively either by single or two handed casting.

Deerfield Spey Day

I would like to thank Walt Geryk for organizing the fine Spey Day event on the Deerfield River (Saturday 4 May, 2011). Spey Day was a fund raiser for the Reel Recovery to help victims of cancer.

Phil Krista was a great instuctor in teaching traditional spey casting.

Thanks again, Walt, and I hope you will have a similar event next year.

Had a great time at the Deerfield
this past weekend.Met some really cool people and walked away with a new Deer Creek baby spey that I got a great deal on at the auction.I got to spend some quality time with Phil Krista on the water and at the after BBQ.This man is an inspiration to any that meet him.Passionate about anything he gets involved in.Be it spey ,Wounded Warriors ,or the taste of a 40 year old scotch that he bought and has yet to sample ( Doc is holding out on him):chuckle:

Great ties Vern,Will be stealing your "lobster" pattern soon.Great to see you there.

Most important would be a shout out to Walt Geryk For allowing me to be part of a great weekend. Thanks for the room, feed and fun.All for a great cause makes it even better.Reel Recovery, look into it and do what you can.It all helps.
