Registered. I checked the schedule and both days are almost identical so I only need to miss one day of work.

symposium prizes!

Hello all,
in addition to having a great line up of speakers there will also be some great prizes. Islander Precision Reels and Bob Meiser have donated an incredible combo. Islander have donated a prototype of their new classic spey reel (No. 6). Bob has built one of his masterpieces to match. Cowichan River Lodge has donated a two night stay which includes one day of guided fishing.

Last week saw a great increase in registrations coming in so make sure you sign up soon to ensure you get to see the sessions you want!

Here is the dirt on the new Islander:

WELL, AFTER A LONG PROCESS, HERE IT IS, THE “ISLANDER CLASSIC”, ISLANDER’S ENTRY INTO THE MID LINE WEIGHT SPEY REEL MARKET.

WE TRIED TO MAKE THE REEL AS “TRADITIONAL “ AS POSSIBLE AND INCORPORATED SOME ISLANDER FEATURES FROM PAST REELS.

WE HAD MANY COMMENTS IN FAVOR OF A SIMPLE “CLICK AND PAWL” REEL AND WE HAVE DONE THAT. DRAG PRESSURE IS MARGINALLY ADJUSTABLE BY USING THE FRAME SIDE, FIVE POSITIONS, DRAG KNOB. REMOVING THE CLICKER SPRING AND BENDING THE ARMS INWARD CAN MAKE FURTHER ADJUSTMENT FOR ADDED PRESSURE.

THIS IS A BUSHING REEL THAT INCORPORATES TWO OILITE BUSHINGS IN THE SPOOL AND THEY RIDE ON A STAILNLESS STEEL SPINDLE.

THE REEL WILL COME IN ONE SIZE BUT THERE WILL BE TWO SPOOL CONFIGURATIONS AVAILABLE. BOTH SPOOLS WILL FIT THE SAME FRAME.
THE NUMBER SIX (#6) SPOOL IS DESIGNED TO FIT A 6 OR 7 WEIGHT LINE, THE NUMBER EIGHT (#8) SPOOL IS DESIGNED TO FIT AN 8 OR 9 WEIGHT LINE.

THE CLASSIC IS 4.2” IN DIAMETER
THE SPOOL WIDTH IS 1.250”
THE #6 SPOOL ARBOR IS 2.5” IN DIAMETER – SPOOL VOLUME 5.25 CU. IN.
THE #8 SPOOL ARBOR IS 2.0” IN DIAMETER – SPOOL VOLUME 7.0 CU. IN.
WEIGHT 10.8 OUNCES

A successful weekend!

A big thanks to everyone who made the trip to Victoria this past weekend. We had 180 people come out and the majority were not from Victoria! I'm jealous of the guy who won the sweet match up of a new Rio line, Islander reel and Meiser rod. I really enjoyed the chance to hear Dana speak and his presentation on the future of steelheading was thought provoking.
