The latest on the Red Shed Clave and steelhead season

Lot's of rumors floating around regarding the Red Shed Clave so I made the call. Here is the latest directly from Poppy 2 minutes ago. The Clave is going on as scheduled but the casting competition, "Redneck O Rama", scheduled for Sunday, is cancelled. All fishing for Steelhead ends on the 29th. Evidently they are going to allow Chinook fishing until 13th of October. Will post updates as they are confirmed by the man.

I see you're a shvingger too!

What Bruce said! We are all going and I will be bringing several newby's as well. Still a great time and super opportunity to learn. And, like I said in another post, besides swinging for steelhead, some serious trout fishing is also going to get done while we're there! All good stuff.

Equally excited as before, if not more. Maybe some folks can hang around after the event and chat about the good ole days.

And of course, reminder on the charity casting class from 3 to 5. Lets do some good for folks in need.

Agree, going and looking forward to the camaraderie. Really depends on what my afternoon looks like for the casting clinic but either way I will be chipping in for a good cause. See you guys soon.

Have fun boys. I have to work Saturday so I won't make it.

I just got back last night at midnight from 3 days. I cried while I was fishing yesterday and I don't think I can ever say I've done that before. Guess I have two months to explore other places and pursuits.

There are a few fish in the river, despite me not getting a sniff and the sad state of affairs.

I saw two people catch fish this past weekend. One was Simon Hsieh and he was making 140 foot casts into the middle of the river. The other was an older lady whose husband kept telling her she needed to wait for the line to hit the water before beginning her forward cast. Watched her land her first fish ever across the river from me yesterday.

Another acquaintance was in town for the Rendezvous and had never fished the CW. He walked out to Cherry Lane and caught one on his first few casts.

Our group did not fare well, with one real grab to our name.

And that, my friends, is steelheading. hahaha

Been there done that, even on years with higher fish counts.

Yup! My buddy Josh's father has a mid-September birthday. His name is Fay, so we call our annual gathering the Fay Clave. Usually is the weekend before Poppy's. Last year he got a beautiful giant wild hen on his birthday. Not as lucky this year!

Most of the time you can find me sleeping in my rig at Gibbs or at the El Rancho with my buddy Rupesh. Room 23! I'll probably be there at least one weekend to play around on the Snake. Always up to meet folks and talk fishing. If you see the red RAV come say hi. Probably going to be spending a lot more time down in North Fork though this season. Back to my roots.

Gotcha. I kind of can't believe I didn't at least get a trout! Because of the distance I usually fish upriver on the Salmon, since it's so much closer to Missoula. Really pretty, but a short season. Good chance I'll be on the Snake for at least a few days, though. I remember your rig and I'll keep an eye out!
