Salmon River Skagit Expo

Hey All,
Wanted to make an official announcement that May 1 and 2, 2010 Speynation will be hosting the Skagiteers on the Salmon River in NY. Pineville parking lot, same as our June clave.

Kind of a mini Skagit Clave if you will. Saturday will be demos, hanging out talking rods, lines, flies with Ed Ward, Scott O'Donnell, and Mike McCune. We are also trying to line up a few more demonstrators for Saturday.

Classes will be held on Sunday. There will be a Beginner Skagit class, and an intermediate/advanced class as well. Max 5 people per instructor and at $165 per person, a fantastic deal. Please pm me or email me at [email protected] to sign up for the class. I already have 3 spots spoken for.

Still working on rods, lines to play with on Saturday. I will update this post as things progress. Thank and hope to see you there for this rare opportunity!

-Zack

Sent you an email

Zack, sent you an email. I'd like to sign up. Can I be #4? Do you need any help with setup or logistics? Anything else?

Ok, I have a few updates for the Salmon River Skagit Clave.

First off, we are changing the location of the event. We are now going to hold the event at the Douglaston Salmon Run! Jason has been kind enough to allow us to have this down there, as of now the Demo's will be held on the South bank of the Meadows.

For anyone looking for lodging for the weekend, the DSR is a fantastic choice. Plus being a lodge guest will allow you to fish down there (closed to the public as of May 1). Contact [email protected] and put in the subject line "skagit clave".

I now have 18 people signed up for the classes. There are a few more spots open so if you are interested just email or pm me.

Just a reminder that Saturday is a FREE day for all! Sunday's classes are 4 hours long and all 3 instructors will be rotating between people for a great overall experience and different point of views!

There is no fee to attend the Saturday event. However, this means no fishing obviously! The DSR is closed starting May 1 for lodge guests only. If you need a place to stay that weekend, send Jason an email and he will hook you up. If you stay there you can fish and as a bonus there is also going to be a cocktail party Friday night at the main house for all lodge guests. Should be a great time!

Ok. Sorry for the lack of updates for the event this coming Saturday. Good news is everything is confirmed and ready to go!

Since the parking lot on the South side of the river near the Meadow only holds 30 cars, we need everyone to park in the MAIN DSR PARKING lot. Not the other side as originally planned. We will have the rods/lines set up at the top of the stairs. Demos will take place at the bottom of the stairs, between the Wall hole and Sycamore. Since the flow will most likely drop to 185 May 1st (Saturday) this spot will also offer decent flow in that level.

There will be some rods there to cast as well. Rods will include (just about 100% sure on the list) TFO, Sage, Redington, Orvis, Winston, Hardy and as of today Loop USA! Lines to include Rio Skagit lines and Airflo Compact skagits and I believe some hardy and loop lines.

The plan is to start things around 10 am or so, depending on how much BSing is going on. Not a strict schedule to keep, but each of the Skagiteers will be doing different demos throughout the day.

Bring some food and drink for yourselves as well since we have no plans as of now to do a lunch or anything.

Thanks and see everyone Saturday.

I just wanted to jump in here and state that the Skagit Expo was most excellent (even when we had to make the pilgrimage to the other side of the river to continue).

I took the beginner class yesterday and all I have to say to those who are considering attending the Michigan class next week is DON'T MISS IT! The class was outstanding and worth more than what they were charging, for sure. I was very impressed and I plan on practicing as much as I can on my local section of the Delaware (smallie water). Now I can't wait for fall! Thanks Zack for putting it together!

This was a very excellent seminar. Mike McCuin, Scott O'Donell and Ed Ward were super instructors. I learned and hopefully will retain more in 4 hours than I've been able to teach myself in the past year.
Ed told me they were heading to Michigan in the next few days for another class. You'd be wise to do whatever you can do to attend. The price was well worth it. I can't say enough good about this trio of experts.
