Spey Nation Announcement

Trying to keep everyone informed of some developments in our world. Sorry if you've seen it several times already but I think it's important since many have asked about what is going on so they can make plans.

To Our Valued Friends,
Spey Nation in it's current event format, is taking a year off in 2018.
Thank you, our great friends who we have known over the past 10 years, and those new friends who we have met just recently. You have made Spey Nation events the special occasions that they have become. Without your participation, attendance and support at the raffle tables, Spey Nation would not have grown over those years into the organization it has become which is well beyond our wildest expectations.
The small army of dedicated volunteers have tried to do what we thought was best for our beloved fishery and the Spey Nation brand while supporting the organizations who share common goals. Together over the last decade, we have collectively tried to change the culture of the river had meaningful discussions about conservation, catch and release, stream side etiquette and what's good for the fishery.
Through all of our efforts, we have been able to support another fishery returning Atlantic Salmon to Fish Creek where development had wiped out an entire population. Congratulations, you are all the proud parents of over 1 million baby salmon swimming in Fish Creek and Oneida Lake.
Spey Nation as a grass roots organization is not going away, we are going to take this valuable time to continue to improve and support those who promote spey fishing, steelhead and salmon sustainability, and work to make our corner of Spey Nation better.
Thank you very much for your past and future support,

Spey Nation 2018

I am sorry to hear this. For several years I have been planning fishing trips so that I would be in the area for this event. It has always been well organized, and has attracted some top notch instructors (Mia Shepard, Simon Gawesworth, Andrew Moy, April Vokey, Topher Brown, Frank Swarmer, Greg Senyo, and Ed Ward quickly come to mind). I sincerely hope that this wonderful event continues in 2019!

I can't understand why some folks think a drink can is harder to carry out when it is empty than it was to carry in when it was full.

bumma !
ever since i started 2 handed casting , i've come to the salmon and spey nation . it has been an incredible resource for me in my journey . it is so well run and i've met so many fantastic people . not to mention the first rate instruction and the chance to try different lines , rods etc . i've always made a several day affair of it by coming early or staying late to fish the salmon . last year i swung up an atlantic on the day before . on saturday , while i was trying a new single hand spey line ,i picked up a nice brown . icing on a delicious cake !
things like spey nation don't happen on their own . many , many thanks to those who have made it happen . hats off to you !! i hope you can find the energy to make magic in the future . to that end , i offer my services in any way . not sure what i can do from down here on the genny , but the offers stands .
never forget at one of my first trips up for spey nation . cleanup time and here comes a truck pulling up to break down , cranking the gourds doing "gin and juice " .
gotta love it .
thanks , jim

Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul ...

Almost 11 years ago I was at the Trestle gear fishing with the wife and son( he is 26 now). From around the bend these 2 guys came working their way down with rods twice the length of a man.I remember watching them and wondering what the hell were they doing. As I watched them for a few moments they began to cast. When they got closer they pulled out and started walking around us. As they passed I asked about the rods and told them it looked like fun. That is when they told us about the first Spey Nation. They said there was a gathering of Spey casters the next day at Pineville.
We showed up expecting nothing. We were outsiders looking to kill a few hours on a sunny afternoon. What we all received was a warm welcome, a free lunch, and our first casting lessons( Thank you Andrew Moy). To show our gratitude we bought 20 beans worth of tickets, with that we won 2 Spey rods(Thank You Malinda).
9 Spey Nation events(Missed one), 20 rods, as many reels plus, dozens of lines, thousands of flies, and more than a few life long friend........

Thank You Shaq and the whole Spey Nation Team
Enjoy your time off. It is well deserved.

With the hollow cries of a loon echoing off the mountains, the mist rises from the water like a thousand ghostly spirits freed at last of their earthly torments. It is here that my life falls into focus.
