PNW Fly Fishing Fair and Casting Expo

On June 20 at Lake Tye in Monroe, will be the 1st annual "Jimmy Green Memorial Fly Fishing Fair and Casting Expo."

Every fly shop in the area - All About the Fly; Avid Angler; Creekside Angling Company; Gig Harbor Fly Fishing; Kaufmann's Streamborn; Orvis; Pacific Fly Fishers; Patrick's; Puget Sound Fly Fishing Company; River Run Anglers; Ted's Sports Center as well as every rod manufacturer, and guide service will be there. All Fly Fishing Clubs and non-profits will be invited.

The Fair's sole purpose is to introduce our great sport and passion to more people. As such, there will be no selling, no close outs and no great deals. Instead, people will have the opportunity to meet, greet and learn from the people who own their local fly shops and cast rods made by all of our country's rod makers.

The hours will be from 9AM to 4PM. We will have free coffee and donuts as well as free hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments for lunch.

Every hour, we will have a class entitled, "Fly Fishing 101." There will be free casting lessons; single-handed casting demos; two-handed casting demos; a 5wt casting competition; a two-handed casting competition; and fly fishing seminars throughouut the day.

What's in it for you, the seasoned fly fishing veteran, you may ask? We will have a raffle that only you may enter. You will get a ticket for every eligible beginner you bring to the Fair.

With your support, this grassroots show could be the beginning of an outdoor fly fishing show in the PNW!
More details will be posted as they become available.

I've been waiting for this to come to fruition since last fall, which was when I first was told it might become a reality. Good on all of you for putting it together! Perhaps it can become the premier fly fishing show on the west coast!

Smile Jimmy Green Memorial Spey Clave

The spey clave being held in June is not the 1st annual Jimmy Green Spey Clave. Previously they were held at the Howard Miller Steelhead Park, on the Skagit River. I have attended a number of them over the past 5 years or so, happy to see they will be continuing. Sorta wish it was on a river rather than a lake though.
Cheers

Yes Sauk River, you are correct but it is time for me to pass the torch. I'm getting tired. All the shops in the area are willing to put it together with Kristin spear-heading the effort. You'll still see the same stuff that we have always done at Rockport plus a lot more, and with the same laid-back style. Lake Tye is an ideal place to change from grass to water for the competition, much like Aaron Reimer's competition. The difference is the lake isn't subject to high water conditions that we might find on the river. Jimmy Green always wanted to hold the competition on a pond and we tried but it never worked quite as expected. Monroe has the ideal pond in Lake Tye. Lake Tye Park is ideal in that there has a shelter, lots of grass to try out all the rods and lines that will be there and playground equipment for the kids. Room for the 4 wt game, lots of practice room and it's all in the same huge lawn area adjacent to the lake and June 20 should be warm and dry. Bring your grass leader if you like but there is ample room to test equipment on the lake while standing on dry land or in the water. This should be a blast. See you June 20. Bring some youngsters willing to learn and get in the drawing once for each one you bring.

Yo Marlow...

Howdy Marlow,

Mrs RedShed and I are going to try our best to get over there for this event. I'm hoping to see you if we make it.

Yo Champ,
Are you wearing the red cape outfit for the distance comp?

How you get the line out and fishing is personal preference so as long as it works and is easy no one should care but the caster. MSB

I'm not sure but I thing capes are illegal. Unfair advantage and all.
