Thumbs up Muskegon River Gathering

To those of you that attended the awesome Muskegon Clave and want a chance to fish it's waters when the Fall Steelhead should be running good, or if you missed the Clave and want a chance to attend a gathering on the banks of the mighty Mo with free place to spend the weekend.........

[B] Reserve the weekend of November 22nd 2008.[B]

I'm throwing open the doors to the house here on the Muskegon for the weekend to any and all the want to come from near or far to gather and fish, tie flys, eat, BS, drink, and just have a damn good time!!

I'm thinking Friday evening the 21st thru Sunday the 23rd......whenever type thing.

I've hosted a few of these now and they have all been a riot, so mark your calander and plan on stopping by for an hour, a day, or the entire weekend.

I have a security system--A German Shorthair--so she gaurds the house, you gaurd you feathers if you bring any to tie with!!!

I have plenty of room for everyone, but bedspace is limited. Bring your own sleeping bag and a pillow, a cot or bed roll if you have one. Or you can just crash on the floor if you want to. Your choice.

Plenty of showers/bathrooms, so bring your own personals, towels, ect.....

We have been known to get a little loud on occasion---Single malt and fine beers tend to do that , but there are rooms away from the action that are quieter(I think anyway) for those that crash/rise early for fishing-----or like to cook us all breakfast . You don't HAVE to drink to stay here......But, you know, sometimes it happens

We can all kick in on food with planned meals, or everyone does there own thing......I have a full kitchen here so whatever works is fine with me........

Great Lakes Flyfishing--- The sponsor of the great Clave here, are the nearest Flyshop in the know and would be your best bet for great local info on the Muskegon's Fall run. Good bunch of people there.
There is a small sporting goods shop in Newaygo nearby in case anyone forgets any basics, or needs a license.

Again, all are welcome. Here's to a great weekend,

Joe

Red face One More Thing........

I almost forgot. If you are inclined to camp, you could put up a tent or whatever here, but November in Michigan is usually pretty chilly......

Tent= cold and wet.
House= warm and dry.

I know which I'd choose.....

Joe

yo Mojo,

Thanks for the invite. It's on the calender.

Is Miranda from The Newaygo County Times Indicator going to cover this story as well?

Wink Actually..........

I mentioned the possibility of having this gathering and I told her I'd invite her. She told me to be sure and contact her, so I will CERTAINLY do so........BUT I'm not sure I have enough European Charm to convince her to cover the story.

As host of this event, I AM obligated to make her aware of The Ghetto Casters

I hope this doesn't scare her off.

Looks to be fun either way,

Joe

Anglers Casting Competition

What about a friendly casting competition at Henning on the Saturday?,

A bottle of good Single Malt as the prize and the winner gets to share it with everybody?.

The Doug Taylor Invitational part 2?

I'm in.

Seth is also.

As always Joe, very gracious for the invite.

When he says the doors are open, they are open. He has a big F'N right on the river, only 100 steps down cardiac hill.

Just a Host, Not an Organizer.......

Hey whatever the masses want! I'll only enter if there is a prize for Worst Caster and audience is Blindfolded .

Woodlander, Jamey, Seth, and others can plan out the dirty details/agenda/schedule........I trust your organizational skills and experience......I'm really looking forward to this!

Jamey---168 steps actually--- I can still negotiate them well getting fatter with two rebuilt knees........ I could run up them when I bought the place......And NO I didn't wear out my ACL's using my stairs!!!

No heart attacks have ever happened on the cardiac hill steps!!!!

I do have a friend with low bank frontage on some prime water that the less mobile( or out of shape.......chuckle chuckle) among us can drive to for easy wading access this weekend.

See you boys there...

I will see you boys there. It's been awhile since the last gathering at MoJo's. Thanks for the offer Joe.
Can I claim rights to sat. nights dinner again? It was lasagne last time i brought dinner...any requests?
Or might Gary be going to the Polish connection again?! Either way, I'm in.
I could also be talked into bringing down a co2 system and a keg of beer(or I could also bring...maybe 2 1/6th barrels since the system I have can pour 2 beers?!)

Sorry to not make the clave last weekend...but work sometimes get's in the way of fishing.

Jon

Two handed rods, swung flies, bird dogs and the 45th parallel. That's my happy place.

Thumbs up 3 Weeks to Go.....

I just wanted to refresh this thread and let everyone know that I'm looking forward to the weekend of November 22nd.

I got out and swung flies flies in the Wintery Weather earlier this week......Started just above the house here and 15 minutes into it, while lighting a smoke on the dangle.......WHAM!

Nearly yanked the rod out of my hand. I yanked back----No loop as I was "busy" lighting up.........Shiny torpedo jumps.......Slack line.

I had one other nice pull, but missed on it. Same general area, second pass through........Both hits on gorgeous flies given to me by Rambo.

This swinging flies is quite addicting, especially when I can now cast well enough to fool people that I know what I'm doing

The 550 Skagit line on my Scott ARC 1308 is just the ticket that works for me and my attempts to bang out a cast......

Thank You again to the many at the "Speyfest" this past September , sponsered by Great Lakes Flyfishing, that took the time to help dial in this line for me..... It makes a HUGE difference to be balanced.

Still off work recovering from my ACL reconstruction and visited the Orthopaedic Surgeon this week. The Doctor said that cool river water flowing over my knee in waders is perfect therapy for helping to reduce swelling and Pain....... I plan on following my perscribed therapy often as the Doctor knows best!!!! He was here fishing the Muskegon last Thursday and practices what he preaches.......Fishing heals everything!

Again, looking forward to the gathering here and all are welcome to attend. Stop by for an hour, a day, or the entire weekend.......

Sounds good, I'll probably be up Saturday with the usual suspects.

As Doug had brought up, lets all meet up about 2pm or so at Henning for some casting/Single Malt tasting.

AND!

As I stated in an earlier reply:

He really means "THE DOORS ARE OPEN". I know there are a few new guys around in the area, everybody is very welcome, PM me if you need directions, or whatever. Very good chance to BS about rods, reels, lines, whiskey, breasts, beers, flies, tying; everything important.
