Poppy comes through again.

Poppy from the Red Shed emailed me today with the offer of a great prize. He is donating an Echo rod, medium action 12'6" 6/7, 13'0" 7/8, 13'6" 8/9 or a fast action 14'0" 9/10. The rod of choice will include a matching Airflow Compact Skagit line and Airflow Ridge running line. A great combination.

In Jimmy Green style, the caster with the average score will be the winner.

I hope to see a big turnout.

Do we need to make reservations for space at the camp ground?

You can but there are always a lot of empty camp sites on that week end. Although, this isn't a normal year and there may be more people.

The number for the park is 306-853-8808 or Rusty's cell 360-333-2696.

See you there Rich

Road trip!

I think I may head up for the day. Don't feel like dealing w/ the lake fishing crowds on opening day and need to get out! I would rather be up there fishing, but had a great time a few years ago when I went up.

Upgrade

Poppy at the Red Shed has upgraded his donation from the Echo to a Dec Hogan Echo series rods. The lines are the same as in my previous post, to match the rod. I haven't had the pleasure of casting these rods but I know that if Dec and Tim are the designers, they are something very special. They know their stuff.

The rods are all medium action and the winner will have the following choices:

DH4119 4WT 11'9"
DH5122 5WT 12'2"
DH6126 6WT 12'6"
DH7130 7WT 13'0"
DH8133 8WT 13'3"
DH9126 9WT 13'6"

One more rule for this year, the winner has to let me cast the rod. At least once.

Billfish
I look forward to seeing you on Saturday. I asked Rusty at the park to arrange for decent weather. It's looking like he's going to pull it off.

One of my favorite gathering, I'll be there. It's supposed to be sunny and I am certain this year's competition will be red hot...

Glad I checked in. I wasn't sure if this was going to happen this year. I will be there once again making a fool of myself trying to cast off the grass.

Another fun day with Marlow and gang. The best part was sitting around the fire with Marlow and Mike Kinney on Friday evening. Saturday's casting competition was again filled with encouragement, vocal appreciation of long casts and lots of laughter. Mike brought many rods and lines to keep everyone busy casting. Marlow certainly puts on a great event. The Red Shed provided the prize of a rod and line as usual. Thanks Poppy.

A fun day

The weather was perfect, if not just a bit warm for a while, thanks for that Rusty. There was a heavy frost early but it didn't last long. The sun was out by 10 and stayed out all day. What Luck! A light wind was blowing from all directions so we set up an opposing casting direction to be used at the discretion of the contestant.

There was an understandably light turn out, due to the early river closure, but more than I anticipated showed up and most entered the competition. We used one of Mike Kinney's TFO's that matched our old competition line. Nice rod. There were 14 contestants and the average score was 198'9" The score closest was that of Mike Abbot. So, Mike, just remember to let me cast that thing when you get it. It's the rule.

We had a good day and I thank everybody who attended, especially those who helped out and those who subjected themselves to the humiliation of striving to be average.

High score was that of Ian Stubbs at 227'3" (very good Ian) followed by Mike Kinney at 208'10".

Bummer...

Wish I could have made it, but had too much going on this weekend. Talke to Mike about it and it sounded like a nice time!

Maybe next year! :-)

Marlow, I had a ball, the weather cooperated and with a little help from my friends I ended up being "Mr. Average." Thanks for the opportunity to meet old friends and make a few new ones. You can cast the rod just as soon as I get it.
Cheers
Mike
