Upcoming North Umpua conservation town hall meetings

Just received this email from Wild Steelhead United/TU. Thought it may interest a few of you.

During the month of August, Congressman DeFazio will be hosting several town halls to address three bills important to Oregonians, including the Frank Moore Steelhead Sanctuary Act.

The bill would permanently safeguard an area that contains some of the best wild steelhead spawning areas in the Pacific Northwest. Named in honor of Frank Moore, a World War II veteran and a legendary steward of the North Umpqua River, the act would safeguard drinking water, critical wildlife habitat, and cultural resources in a watershed identified as one of the most important ecological areas in the Pacific Northwest. The area provides more than 50 miles of high-quality river and stream habitat for summer and winter steelhead, chinook and coho salmon, rainbow trout, and other native species.

Be a voice for the Frank Moore Steelhead Sanctuary Act, the Oregon Wildlands Act, and the Southwestern Oregon Watershed and Salmon Protection Act by attending one of the meetings listed below.

Excellent

How is the health of the river presently? Isn't the NU the gold standard of the NW? What's the recent history and present state of affairs?

Thank you for sharing

still think the wild population of fish on the NU is strong and stable. Would love to make it out there but I happen to be stuck on Silver Creek out of Sun Valley Idaho and the tricos are falling!!!

As an aside I would highly recommend the video Mending the Line if you can find a copy - excellent film about Frank, his life on the NU and his trip to Europe to see where he fought during WW2. He and his wife are a true class act!!!!!!
