Great Lakes (SW MI)

I know this is short notice for most, and it is on a holiday weekend. It looks like a small group of us are getting together on the St. Joe at the Berrien Springs dam on May 26th for some casting and fishing. Just got off the phone with the local Sage guy and it looks like we will have some of their sticks around to demo, and possibily a few others. There are already a dozen or so guys that said they will be there, I wasn't going to post anything, but I figured it would be a good chance to get some time on the water with some new rods, hang out with some old friends and make some new.

Drop me a PM if your interested, or just show up, and I apologize for the short notice.

Already have a grill offered up and a few burgers. I have a few packs of Brats in my freezer I could bring along.

Just got late breaking word from Danimal that there will be half a dozen or so Meiser sticks available for demo also. I believe I heard something about a 15ft 8/9 Skagit rod that was a fan favorite at the Sandy gig.

Thanks Bob and Dan.

Just got confirmation that Peter Humphreys, THCI, Guideline pro staff, and Muskegon River guide will also be attending the event. He will be bringing along some Guideline equipment, doing a demo, and helping out with individual casting.

This thing is really coming together.

Thanks Doug and Peter for getting this together.

Hmmm

This is startin' to sound like fun. Maybe I can cash in some "green stamps" for a kitchen pass.

Never been to B Springs...Is it wadeable? Where would one stay nearby? Got other info on fishing there, etc?

We are talking about a one day only gig, correct?

Scott,

Would be good to see you again. Wading is good, as much room or more than Henning. Not too sure about lodging, maybe something in downtown Berrien Springs. Yes, one day gig, probably breaking up late afternoon. Probably looking at 2 hours one way from the Detroit metro area, atleast. There was a guy from Ann Arbor that PM'd me, maybe you two can hook up. I'll PM you his info.

Anybody from the area have any info on lodging?

This sounds like a great event

This will be my first Clave since starting Spey last year. I am looking fwd to meet the personalities behind this digital forum and to try out new rods.

Since this location is about 3 hours from Dearborn, I would like to make a fishing weekend out of it. But I don't know the area, would like to check out the local fishing and local camping sites. I have the State Campsites but am not familiar with them or their offerings.

Any suggestions? It would also be nice to find others looking to car pool and fishing- buddy- pool to break me into the area/ Spey scene.

PS: I'll bring along my Frankenstein-ien lines as a testament to some of the stuff I have posted since Sept.

There are hotels close either in Niles (I think) or right on the border with Indiana, about 30 minutes from BS. South Bend is close so lots of hotels for Notre Sucks, uhh I mean Dame... ! There is also a campground close I believe and good smallmouth opps as well. For lodging, try Niles Inn and Conference Center, easiest on price I think.

Anyway, if you want to make a weekend of it there are opps only a couple of hours north and closer. PM for any other questions. Look forward to this myself, it will be my first get together as well. Hopefully a new tradition will be born!

A few of us locals will be there so we could show you around I am sure

Holiday weekend...

I wish I could make it down, but it is a holiday weekend and I will be busy at work...making money to buy new spey toys!!!

Jamey-I look forward to your report on the Meiz 15er skagit and the sage 7136 z axis(Hint Hint). If something comes up and I can make it, I will let you know. This is the first MI "event" that I will miss in a few years

Jon

Two handed rods, swung flies, bird dogs and the 45th parallel. That's my happy place.

Update...........

Just got a PM from Poppy. He is sending me 5 Airflo rods and a handful of Deltas to play with also. Along with that he is going to send a few door prizes. What a helluva guy.

I'm thinking a raffle at about 1pm or so. Maybe somebody can jump up to be the MC?

Thanks alot to Mike (poppy)@Redshed

Thomas&Thomas is onboard, demo's on the way here for the 26th.

Thanks to [email protected]&T, and everybody that has helped out or offered a hand, this is getting a bit crazier than I had planned.

yo Jamey

The BS Gathering is going to be a PIMP event.....but....I already have prior commitments. Any chance some of that sweet lighter weight graphite and lines (think smallies...in the slot...past the big boulder....GVSU beat) might make it to the 'hood after the Gathering?

Yeah, Yeah, but you know I'll line them a couple hundred grains under what your types seem to think is acceptable

[FONT="Arial Narrow"][SIZE="3"]Now I'm a type?!
What ever my brother . You tell me what line you like on a rod and I know what line I want on it(hint hint-if there's a 1308 T&T and/or a 7136 Z Axis, I expect a report). I trust your impression(s) of rods as we like alot of the same rods, so this should be a compliment!!!

I am bummed to miss this gig...but the trout fishing up here is really nice right now. Had a good one on weds fishing the 6wgt spey...and for crying out loud, I was fishing the devil line(aka skagit) and got him on the strip b/c with the devil line, I don't need so much head length for a spey cast, which means shorter minimum cast which means I can strip huge f'in streamers for the crocodile size brownies we have up here.
aaahhh, sorry about the rant. No I'm not!!!

Have fun boys. Drink some single malt for me.
