Is Scott still the World Champion? I thought young Gordon won the CLA this year.

Hi Guys,
Just got a 15ft hand build rod from Harry at clan rods and its a beauty this will be incuded in with the other raffle prizes, this is a free event open to everyone, so take your rod, waders, ect , and come watch and chat with the guys, not everyday you get the three times world champion and world record holder giving you tips all weekend for free.
Of all the demo's i have see , Scott's is easily the best, and if its Ness Style, there is no-one better.

Recently had a cast of two of Harry's 18ftrs, the Macleod and the other one I dont remember the name of. Tons of power and very nice.

If everything is quiet at work I might see if I can sneak over, sounds like a great event.

The good news Corin is the timing will drop you right in the middle of the best of the Vedders/Harrison's salmon runs. Not a bad thing .. all-be-it you're susposed to be casting with a bit of yarn.

But if no ones looking ..............................

The following weekend you also have the big 'Clave down in Washington. Drive time from one to the other would be about 4 hours max. as it's mostly 70 mph 'freeway.' (Interstate 5 from the US boarder to Seattle.)

Corin if your flying from Scotland you can get a flight direct from Glasgow to Vancouver, and if you have time you should have a look or fish around some of BC, one of the nicest places in the world i have ever been.
And like Fred says Aaron will be having one the following weekend in Washington that should be good fun, and only a couple of hours drive.
A couple of things to check out, if you are going to hire a car, do it over the internet or book it in this country, dont just get one at the airport its about double the cost, and check if you are allowed to take the car across the border, some dont let you.
Hope you can make it, might be able to sort some fishing out with Scott and myself and a couple of other guys, after the weekend we are off fishing for a few days .
Cheers Gordon.

Cheers Fred/Gordon. I've been to Canada/BC a few times and its one of my most favourite places in the world.

I'm as keen as hell to get over, but typically when I checked my calendar I've found out that some friends from home are coming to visit me in Aus so I'm not going to be able to make it.

Its a total bugger as I'd all but booked the flights and I'm desperate to have a cast with some other Spey casters.

Anyway its not to be, so I'll just have to wait until next year.

Will be back in Scotland in Jan, so hopefully I'll be able to make it to a few more events next year.

I hope its a great event, you get into a few fish and enjoy a few cold Molson! Remember to post a few pics!

all the best

Hey Corin,
O well its a pity you cant make it but let me know when your back in Scotland, as i will be still working on the Spey, the river will be closed, but we can still go and try out some rods.
As you said BC is beautiful, and having done a fair bit of travelling its still one of the nicest places i have been.
Going fishing to Van Island before the Clan Gathering hope they get some water soon, but we go every year fishing and drinking the odd molson, i think we go some way to keeping that brewery going.
All is about ready for the Clan Gathering, should be a great weekend , then we are off fishing, got a jet boat booked, with beer.
Let me know when you are in Scotland.
Cheers Gordon.

Hi Guy's,
Sent over some of the raffle prizes this week, there was no way i could carry them onto the plane so sent over,
A hand built rod from Harry at Clan rods, and its a beauty.
40 Salmon fly lines , 10 bottles of speyside single malt whisky that you can't get in Canada or the US, 10 really nice maps of the Spey, some old collectable reels and a load of other Speycasting Stuff (old collectable rods rods and reels), and thats not including the Speycasting stuff i send over earlier, so loads of prizes.
The weekend is free, and Scott, Francois, Mariusz , myself and another couple of crazy Highlanders hope to see you there.

Hi Guys,
Just to let you know that things are all in place for the speyclave at peg leg, i will also have some rods desgined by Scott Mackenzie for everyone to try out, Scott spent the last 18 months developing these rods and it will be their first showing in the PNW and only available at this Speyclave.
So if you want to try out the latest rods from the UK, i hope to see you there.
Gordon.

Spey Clave - Lessons

Spent today with Gordon and Scott getting some casting lessons. A half dozen of us were treated to some very good one to one instruction. Managed to iron out some kinks in my casting and picked up a new appreciation for this style of casting. Watching Scott cast such long lenghts of line with ease is a something everyone should get to see.

Also got to try out one of Scotts signature series rods from Diawa UK. There will be one of these in my collection for sure. Smooth and powerful. The 13'- 9wt I tried was the nicest rod I've been able to cast.

Hope this becomes a regular event.

Great Experience

Just got back from B.C. and the Clave. Thanks Gordon for putting this on. Had a great time with the boys. It was a real treat to get some one on one time with Scott. It is not everyday that you can get a critique from a world champion. Pretty awsome to watch him bang out 170 ft. like it is nothing. Nice to get to try out the U.K. rods, especially impressed with Scott's 14 -9 Daiwa. Also nice to add some Scottish flavour to the Chilliwack night life .
It was great to spend a couple of days on the Thompson (pretty humbling experience). After fishing it it becomes obvious why this mighty river is held in such reverence. Hope you manage to do this again.
