Awesome!!

Hey Poppy!

Everybody said such great things about the Clearwater Clave last year, we're going to try to get out there this year.

You list a hotel - are there camping opportunities nearby - where do you recommend?

Howdy Kristin...

We are uncivilized over her so we don't have any "fancy" campgrounds like Oxbow close to the river. There are several places along the river where one can set up camp on one's own, however there will be no showers or potties, unless you bring them. Several people camped on the beach right below the park where we hold the spey clave.

There is also a small RV park being put in at the Canyon Inn just down the road from the shop which is 7 miles upstream. More places are the Nez Perce RV park/campground/casino near Lewiston (about 23 miles downstream, a new RV park in Orofino (about 15' miles upstream) and Pink House Hole BLM campground on the West edge of Orofino (about 12 miles upstream from the spey clave site.

There is contact info for some of these places here: http://www.redshedflyshop.com/motels.html

I hope you guys can make it over. Linda and I are looking forward to seeing you.

About 5 or 6 of the River of No Return boys are coming over. We'll be in the Ken Keasy-St. Croix bus again. We get up with the chickens and go to bed with the turkeys.

Oh my God!!! Lock the doors, hide the children, (and booze), and load the guns.

We are ready for the Salmon River gang and looking forward to seeing you all.
Drive safe!

I'll be there with bells on.......Jason Bowers is coming along with me.

Last year was great. Poppy and Linda are two of the nicest people you could ever want to meet.

Besides.....I have a present for Poppy's grandson Josh.

At least 3 of my family (and probably only 3 of us) will be there. The 2 good casters plus me.

The 2 good casters had a good "practice run" at the North Santiam Spey Casters meeting on Sunday, and we'll be there Thursday afternoon, so they'll have another practice run on Saturday (plus some fishing?!) and be ready for the Clave!

REALLY looking forward to it...

Clearwater reunion

Chris, as usual, I will be there. Like last year my spey mama Jan is coming with me. We are both looking forward to seeing you again, and all the other great people who come to Mike and Linda's spey soirée. Truth to tell, even if I hadn’t promised Poppy I’d be there to cast, I’d be coming anyway. With all the best acts from last year repeating – Kinney, Kruk, Styskal, Larimer, Cook – and the addition of the incomparable master caster Al Buhr (fresh off the publication of his great new spey casting book), the cool casting Koran teens, rod builder par excellence Bob Meiser, superb spey instructor and THCI Leroy Teeple, and fly tyers like the great LeRoy Hyatt, not to mention more varieties of Mrs. Red Shed’s homemade cookies (I’ve had a sneak preview taste of her oatmeal cookies – YUMM!) - the Clearwater Clave this year promises to be a not-to-be-missed first class event. Besides, I hear the “B” runs are up to Lenore.

While the Clearwater Clave isn’t yet quite the size of the Sandy Clave (just wait, however), it certainly sets the standard for congeniality. There simply isn’t a better, friendlier, more amiable host and hostess for a spey event than Poppy and Mrs. Red Shed, and their delightful, congenial family. For me, going to the Clearwater Clave is like going to a mythical family reunion where everyone is your favorite cousin, nephew, uncle or aunt . . . and they all spey fish! Besides the usual Snowbee and Echo gear, I’ll be bringing all four of the new “smooth as buttah” Echo Classic two-handers, and the new super sexy German made Vosseler S3 spey reel. Can’t wait to show it to everyone at the Clearwater “spey reunion.”

That about sums up the Clearwater Clave Larry. Well said

You put into words what I had a hard time saying.

Describing it as a family reunion with all your favorite cousins, certainly hit the nail on the head........a real tribute to Mike and Linda.

My hat is off to you sir

See you there. Best regards
Paul

I can't believe nobody has chimed in with a report yet... well, actually I guess I can. Everyone that was there is hoping to keep the event a secret because it was perfect!

Poppy and Linda, thank you for hosting such a fabulous event. The demos were informative, the food was outstanding, the variety of gear was great.

Larry, Jan , Bill, Roman, Olga - and the River of No Return Boys - great to meet you all.

It was a fantastic event! I had a great time. My single spey is back on track.

I took a ton of pictures. I'll post a link when I get a chance.

I've been trying to write a post about the Clearwater Clave since Sunday but I keep getting sidetracked. I also have a lot of pictures that I will post as soon as I catch my breath.

Mr and Mrs Red Shed never cease to amaze me, they put on a show that delighted all involved. Dale was his usual burgermeister.

The cookies were first to go.....I thought they were for the lunches, but the word was out from the previous years tasty treats. Before you knew it the first bit of saran wrap had been quietly pulled back off one of the many trays and it was a free for all after that.

The reps were great. I was very pleased to have the chance to meet Bob Meiser and drool over his works of art. Mike Kinney was there and wowed the crowds and later on his Sunday Students. Larry Auippy had the crowd on their toes with his single handed spey magic. Brian Styskal and Bruce Kruk had chins on the river bank with their masterful long belly line show. I didn't get to see the others as we were just itching to fish, but I am sure they were all great.

Once again Mike and Linda, a tip of the hat to you folks it was GREAT.

Thanks to all who contributed to the Retts Syndrome fund it was greatly appreciated by those affected....I hope we can top it next year.

I hope to see you all there next year.............maybe we can get over the top with 300 in atttendance.........Sorry Linda. Better get started now with the cookies.

Keep tying flies Josh.....that Bill Bakke's Dragon fly skater was a killer pattern. You have many great years ahead of you. I am sure that in 5-6 yrs time we will be asking you how and where to fish.

Take care Cummins family........I LOVED IT
