Midwest Steelhead/Spey Event

UMFF will be hosting a Steelhead/Spey day on September 10th. This event is free and open to all. Local fly shops are invited and most rod makers will be sending test rods. Mike Kinney will be giving Skagit demonstrations and Robert Meiser will performing his magic with switch rods and short speys. There will be both single-handed and spey rods to try, private lessons will be available, hearty food and spey fly tying demonstrations.

No, we have fall back locations but none that I am completely happy with. There have been many suggestions as to rivers: Muskegon, St. Joseph, Fox, Kankakee and Milwaukee. I will be taking a field trip to visit the parks along all of the rivers over the next thirty days. Any suggestion to parks and other rivers would be greatly appreciated.

Get in contact with Gary, Jamey, and myself when you make it this way. We'll have to combine the venue research with some fishing.

We could always pitch some tents under the I-196 overpass, its water front and close to Founders.

I think I remember a reason why the Ghetto Casters are not on the organization committee.

Did you guys send Dana his T-shirt?

Dude, no need for tents, there's already a mattress tucked up high by the beams. nice and cozy and dry.

While I suspect that Dana may not monitor UMF daily (what's up with that?), I suspect that he monitors this site. I suspect you will be receiving the needed info soon.

dornblaser do you have the pnw guys or are you just thinking about it also we need water to let these guys show there stuff if thay come out here and the river was just trickel that would be a shame . Why dont we have one clave in Michigan in the spring and time it when the guides and the hardcore spey cats can all be there i am from Milwaukee and it would be easy for me to get the Mill town river but it is just not same we would have it all on the Mo like fish and a big pretty river and camping and some great guys to bs with and hang out thats just what i think .

Never underestimate the power of the swung fly.

Heron,

We do have more details of our steelhead spey event settled. You can follow updates here: http://www.uppermidwestflyfishing.co.../Steelhead.htm This page(s) will be updated on a regular basis.

We have decided on a warm water river that is convenient (or mutually inconvenient ) for WI, Chicago-area, SW MI and NW IN. Some of the advantages are: no compeition from Salmon anglers in the fall and good flows (unlike the Milwaukee) even after hot & dry summers. In addition to PNW folk like Robert Meiser and Mike Kinney we will have a full card of Great Lake's steelheaders. Maps and pics of the park can be found in this thread: http://www.uppermidwestflyfishing.co...opic.php?t=876

Hope to see you on September 10th,
David
