Cattaraugus Date - Oct 2-3 work?

So far there are about 6 of us, maybe seven. If we get enough interest we'll be set to go!

I spoke with the folks over at the tribal center and they will accomodate for licenses and entertained the possibility of a video analysis session in their function hall and a non-profit group doing a barbeque for the group.

If this is to happen we will need a headcount. Those who have already indicated (smolt, wrke, charlie, griz0707, topherbrowne, juro etc) are already counted in the current number above.

Please reply to this thread to confirm this date will work.

OK we'll set the headcount to 9. Great spot picked out, huge left bank gravel bar with parking along the river frontage.

I am working on some camera coverage for the video analysis session afterwards.

I've had a number of PM replies, so the number is steadily increasing but I would ask that people please reply to the post so we can track attendance in one place.

Thanks!

Glad to hear it Bill! Looking forward to hangin' out/.

Also: Topher Browne is planning on attending and will also be giving a presentation at the clave.

We will cover different/complementary topics to keep things interesting.

I will follow up with the officials on the reservation about the video analysis / dinner session at the hall in Gowanda afterwards.

Licenses can be purchased directly from the clave organizers.

Lunch should be a no-brainer, on the gravel bar with whatever permissable means - brots on the grill or just sandwiches, whatever makes sense.

Thanks to those who have contacted me to arrange for private lessons. There is still room for the small class and I will gladly extend my stay earlier or later than the days of the clave.

More to come... please reply if you are attending! It's important for us to get a headcount.

Catt. spey clave

Hi Juro,

Count me in, I've been guiding on the river for the past 15 years and would like to help out in anyway. I can show you some of the better spey pools on the lower part of the river, maybe we could show the float guys how it's done. The owner of Buffalo Outfitters (Tom Kurowski) has offered to help out with Demo rods and promoting the weekend threw the shop. Also if there is any interest, and a place to do it I could put on a great slide show on several Gaspe salmon rivers.

Juro, you can put me down for attending, barring any changes in my work schedule.I may be bringing a friend who lives about a half hour away in East Aurora, but I need to confirm with him yet on the date. Dan

I'll be there.

Add another to the list. I've been following this board here and there and never really thought that a Spey Clave would make it near me. I'm about 35min. from The Catt.

Sounds like a good time brewin'!

We're up to somewhere in the 25-30 people range when including folks I've spoken to by phone, areas pros and flyshop staff, people inquiring offline, etc.

Already going to be a good crew there, even an experienced video cam operator for the analysis session / group dinner afterward.

I am preparing some flyers / brochures for shops in the area and will get those out there after the holiday weekend.

Psyched to see you all out there!

Juro, When you get a chance, can you provide an address to use to get a map over the Internet to the vicinity of where the Clave will be held. Thanks, CK

Thumbs up

Charlie -

Looking at this aerial, the large round gravel bar provides a massive circular left bank gravel area perfect for a spey clave.

Again, the road that appears to lead out there is in fact open, correct? If so then this is the official clave site.

In Mapquest, this would be a north turn off Burning Springs Road almost across the street from Van Vleck Rd near the town of Versailles, NY.

They are getting a lot of rain currently so I would imagine there will be fish in the river by October.

Thanks in advance, once you confirm we will move forward with the final details.

Burning Springs Road ends in a cul de sac a little ways down from there. There is room for some cars there, if needed.

There are some fish in the lower stretches already and the first good wave
should hit during the next 2-3 days.

Thanks for the note Greg.

We've changed the clave location to be in downtown Gowanda at the Aldrich St Bridge, but the clave doesn't start until noon on Saturday so people can hit their favorite spots in the morning before attending. No sense in claving in the good fishing water, as the spey rods will have no hooks on them during casting practice and instruction.

Saturday starts late, ends late - Sunday starts early and ends early.

See the schedule in the recent "details" post for more info.

Please note that registration is required (other thread)

Your name will be put into a drawing for a special spey prize if you register and attend the group dinner.

I'll come if I'm not going to be out of town that weekend: I've been
on the road a lot lately. Hopefully there won't be too many folks at
the bridge: that's a very popular spot at that time of the year.

I uploaded a few pictures of trhe Catt but couldn't figure out how to
add them to this post.[IMG]
