I understand the date is not yet known. Before Easter or after. In winter, you can buy tickets with a nice discount, but I need to know the exact date. Wait. thank you.

Spey - O - Rama 2015

The dates for SOR 2015 are April 17, 18, and 19th. This is after Easter and before Trout Season opens in California.

Dates Are Firm

The dates are as firm as we can make them. The only caveat is that if some corporation pays the Parks Department to rent and close Golden Gate Park for this weekend then SOR is out of luck. The chances of this happening are extremely doubtful.

Geoff,

Could you also post SOR updates to the Facebook Speyorama group page. Most of the competitors visit there.

2015 Spey-O- Rama Line Weight Limit

After discussion with selected competitors and GGACC members the Chief Judge has decided that effective with the 2015 event that a limit will be placed on line weight. This decision was reviewed and approved GGACC's Board of Directors.

"The dry line weight of the line used in the competition can not exceed 1100 grains. The "fly", leader, and running line is excluded from the weight calculation."

All competitors should be prepared to have their line weighed. Weighing will be at the discretion of the Chief Judge.

Line Weight Limit!

So...I have read that 1,100 grains will be max.

How will that effectively be implemented for the participants? Once a line gets wet, it will pick up a bunch of grains. Some lines are going to hold more water than others depending on line durometer, length etc.

Some of the participants will show up as much as a week early to get familiar with the ponds, some will show up later and so forth.

It seems like a date and time of weighing would be in order so that competitors have time for practice sessions along with ample time to dry their line for an "official" weigh in.

As well, are guys going to have to register the line they will be using or lines so that a simple switch after weigh in does not happen?

Standardizing the lines is a great idea as that will also bring the rods back into something that more closely resembles a more true 10 weight, just seems like there needs to be some clear and concise guidelines as the competitors come a long ways from all around the globe to compete.

It would be a bummer to not see some guys compete and an even bigger bummer for competitors that spend a lot of money to get there and a lot of time practicing to be ready to be there.

BB~

Bruce, If you read what was posted it clearly states;
"The dry line weight of the line used in the competition can not exceed 1100 grains. The "fly", leader, and running line is excluded from the weight calculation."

I take from that that they are going to weigh the line dry.

Line Weight

Bruce,
Enforcement of the line weight limit, subject to Board approval, will be to have each competitor's DRY competition line weighed and "officially" marked prior to the competition. I assume that competitors will have practice lines similar to their official competition line that can be used during the practice sessions prior to the weigh in. I hope this answers any outstanding questions.
