Event updates

Donna O'Sullivan has been added this year's list of demonstrators and representatives. Donna is from the San Francisco Bay area and a world champion spey caster. She won the 2-hand salmon distance competion at the 2013 American Casting Association Nationals, and was gold medalist for the 16 ft spey distance competition at the 2010 Norway World Championship of Fly Casting. Donna is a member of the Golden West Women Flyfishers, Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club, and actively teaches single-hand and two-hand fly casting.

Also on good authority that Robert "Bob" Meiser will be cooking the Brats this year!

Hope to see you there,

Dennis

Any last minute tweaks to the program? Can someone please do something about the blistering heat forecast for the weekend in Central Point?

I thought about the 'ice bucket challenge.'

But not to worry, the mornings are very cool now (down as low as the high 40's-low 50's) and the heat really doesn't come on till about 1PM.

It is not getting hot until later in the day, and not as bad as it says. Clouds have moved in today. Mornings are cool. See you all there for a fun event!

Hey rick
I also am coming up from the sf Bay Area
I will keep an eye on this post
I plan on leaving at 3 am sat morning
And driving straight up
I heard the fire was in pollock pines
There is fire in weed too
Is there any other place that is on fire
I don't watch the need any longer
Been years
So much nicer not to see all the doom and gloom
See ya up there
If it's passable

I don't think the freeway closure lasted for more than a few days. Since the fire in Weed is basically out, I'm pretty sure the freeway is open again.

See you Saturday.

the fire isn't out but the highway is open. Not sure what the Happy Camp Fire is doing but a couple of weeks ago when returning from the NU the smoke was solid from north of Yreka to maybe 20 miles out of Redding - had no clue there was a 14,000+ foot mountain called Shasta when we went by it as smoke was too heavy - smelled like a camp fire when I got home!!!!

think it is pretty well contained but winds will determine how bad the smoke is!

I have another reason to come up to this event as a friend of mine broke one of my favorite rods - one of the very early 12' 4 wt Anderson's which is one of my go to rods for the Grande Ronde - sent it off to Gary earlier this week and he hopes to have it fixed in time for my annual GR trip starting next week!!!!

Ah! My mistake. All the pictures and reports I'd seen and read indicated that it was pretty much out. I should have known better, having fought fire for over 20 years with the Forest Service...........pretty much out is not OUT.

See you all in a few days.

Bob

Bob,
From the news today, it sounds like it was still going and not contained but it isn't a big fire - just very destructive.

curious where you worked in the FS. I worked with them for around 4 seasons - one on fire crew back in the late 60s early 70s when I was going to Humboldt State

Best,
Rick

I started in 1969 in Hat Creek. Worked there for 5 summers before going to Chico State, then got a job catching wild horses out of Cedarville, then Susanville. Still worked in fire off and on for about 20 years as falling boss, and dozer boss. Last fire was the Yellowstone in '88.
