Lots of neat info on salt water fishing for strippers, etc., but has anybody fished-caught steelhead in open waters? fe |

Is this a second malt question, Fred? Strippers? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the Great Lakes there are people who fish the surf with baitfish patterns, and there are folks who fly fish from boats to schools of surface feeding steelhead in the summer (our spring run fish). Both of these approaches are still pretty uncommon here. Carl |

Strippers? Why a 14' 9 wt. with a WF-10-I clear stripper line and a $20.00 bill fly. I recommend leftover thong straps for tippet. ![]() BTW, one of the local store owners fishes for steelhead and lakers in Lake Ontario in the spring using a float tube! Peter |

![]() Couple of fellows I correspond with refer to "Stripers" as "strippers" (Joan says one too many "p's" was my down fall) as this is what they can do to your reel. Big mistake "sharing" with you malcontempts. ![]() Anyway (as in what would you know ?... and it was only my first 'double single malt' IF you must know) I've used float rods in northern Puget Sound fishing for Salmon, with one steelie commiting hari kari, but my question still (all be it on thin ground at this point) has anyone 'targeted' steelhead in open water? If so with what, where and how. Signed: Glutton for punishment. ![]() |
