Sage responded this morning and I've copied their response below.

I heard the mighty "snap" on the Skagit a couple days ago and looked up the river at Tyler holding the broken pieces of his latest 10151.
Guess Sage must have accidentially used one of the originals as a replacement?

My rod did not break in the "trouble spot" just below the first ferrule. Instead, it broke just below the ferrule of the second from the top piece. Furthermore, this piece is the one I just had replaced by Sage after I hit it with a 2/0 on the Thompson last fall. AND my 10151 is one of the original models and HAS NOT broken in the butt secton - go figure. Goodness knows that I have been stressing the rod with some reasonably big spiral roll-casts and Snap-T's! All I know is that I cannot go for a day on the river with the 10151 as my only rod - I don't trust it and take a back-up.
In some fairness, over a cigar last night with the owner of a fly shop that specializes in speyrods he said that they have not had any of the new design rods come back in broken, so maybe they did fix it. I guess I'll have to wait until I break mine at the butt ferrule to see for myself how much the redesign effects the action!
Tight lines - kush.
