While attending a spey seminar last week, instructor used a homemade practice leader for the grass made up with blood knots about every 12 inches and he left the tag ends about 1 1/2 inches long and a small piece of yarn at end as a fly. He had 15 foot leader and a 4 foot leader with a little longer tag ends. It grabed the grass well and allowed the rod to load against the pull of grass and when I cast it, feeling was comparable to water loading.
