Dear Spey Casters,
The interest and talk continues about the first Sandy Spey.
I have contacted Jim Lind at Oxbow Park about obtaining the dates: May 18 & 19, 2002 for Sandy Spey Clave 2002.
I plan on renting the same group area.
I would hope all of the people from 2001 will partisipate plus lots of new folks.
Any ideas or help will be much apreciated.
Fish long & prosper,
Mark Bachmann

Cool!  Any chance you could twist the arm of Sage and a couple other big named rod manufactures to participate this year? Wonderful how rods were shared around so a lot of folks got a chance to try 'stuff' they've only heard about but never held in their hands.

Would be a good thing to have some of the 2001 '" boy toys" to play with.

Fred, I'm sure between Mark and myself we should be able to make this happen, especially given the lead time.

Mark, when you get a chance shoot me an email with the details and we'll discuss.

Any chance it could be earlier in the month - say by a couple of weeks? If it's these dates, I'll be unable to make it as I'll be chasing tarpon in the Keys.

Bill from NY

And, as a PS for those who I talked with at this year's clave, daughter in Portland just delivered our first grand daughter two weeks ago. Every one's healthy and beautiful. We just returned home.

Dear Spey Clave Folks,
To answer the questions: Yes, we intend to have Sage, Winston, Redington, Scott, Burkheimer, Lamiglas, G. Loomis, FlyLogic, T&T, RIO, Scientific Anglers, Cortland, Hardy & anyone else who expresses interest, as well as any local shops & guides who want to support us.  We also plan on celebrity casters, tiers, etc.  Big talk I know , but we have 10 months.  The dates are set for selfish reasons because I will be in Belize at Turneffe Flats the prior weeks.  It's dirty dangerous work, but you know how it is.
I propose that no selling or money changes hands for merchandise at the Clave.  This will help keep it clean.  It's just for fun.  Any questions, advise or help will be apreciated.  This forum needs a spell checker.
Fish long & prosper,
Mark

hi mark: this is my first time visiting this site and i ran across your message. if time allows, would appreciate an answer. am thinking of buying my first spey rod and would greatly appreciate some advice. presently looking at the winston derek brown rod, or the flylogic13" 8 wt by dec hogan. have read in other sites that the overseas rods are really the way to go. i know the best answer is to get someplace to try all the differing rods out and "test drive" but barring that would be thankful for just an open honest opinion. will be predominantly fishing michigan streams for steelhead.

WELCOME TO THE BOARD!! Mark knows his stuff and then some, but you will also find a ton of info on almost any rod you could think of in messages on the board. The fellows don't always agree on a specific piece of equipment but the reasoning for the "who, what and why" are always clearly indicated.

If your new to Spey fishing, you've hit your 'Nirvana' of the "who, what and when." Wonderful group of Ladies and Gents from litterly (sp?) all over the world. You can ask any question and you will get very considered advice and counsel.
Fred

Back to Mark for a second; great fly shop and a straight forward guy. OK to 'drop the nickle' with him. Several other fly shops (particularly in Canada) who also have a great rep.

Mark, need to talk to you about a Reddington reel. Will call you tomorrow. Given the above do I get a 50% discount?? :>)

hi mark: i believe you answered my first post but for some reasons the demons of the internet intercepted and my reply from you got scrambled into "gobbleygook."  some times different systems when talking to each other will do that. my original messge had to do with your opinion of dec hogan's rod vs derek browns'  looking at 13' of 8 wt for steelies in michigan waters. this will be my intro in spey rodding.  my addr is: [email protected].   thanks again!
