Hi, does anyone have any experience of this rod ? I want to get an idea of what weight skagit would suit it best ?

paddymc,
I've not cast the Reaction, but the same size/weight in the LeCie seems to like a 625gr. Skagit head. At least that works good for me when I use a Skagit head. I'd guess the Reaction would be close to the same.

I casted a prototype of this rod, on 8wt I think, last year in Norway. The final product may be different, but the one I tried was a 100% scandi, in the Stinger GLX - Sage TCR area, fast recovery, upper-third action, but with "more feeling" than a TCR. It took me a good dozen of casts to get the action of this rod, but then it was fantastic. Then I learnt about the pricetag...

Unless they changed the action of this rod pretty much, I wouldn't put it in a list of skagit-oriented rods. But hey, I've met a gentleman who uses a skagit setup on a 15ft TCR, so...

In comparison to most fast actioned scandi rods, this one is a bit different. Not all of the action is in the top third and you can feel the rod load right into the butt section.

A bit different to an lpxe, but even nicer.

I had the 8/9 in this series...

A skagit head would be the last line I would want to put on it, but that's just me. Truly a superb scandi rod though...

Can I ask what it is about the rod that makes you avoid using a skagit on it ?
