I have several of the Beulah platinum Spey rods and absolutely love them! But the other day lost a beautiful wild fish after a long battle and was thinking if I had one of those cool looking new G2 I probably would have got the fish to the net!😉 so any reviews on these yet? Especially interested in the 12’8” 7wt?

For what it is worth!

I have my hands on all of the rods as they go through design phases.

There is generally a standout in every series but I really feel like these flex/recover very similarly, difference being length and power. Once you know 1 you know them all.

That said, and not to play favorites...but...here are my favorites:
1. 12'8" 7
2. 12'8" 6 almost makes me not want to fish a 7 weight?
3. 13'8" 8 weight 6-piece...yes...packs the same as a 9'0" 5 weight, still breaks in half for those that don't use rod racks on the river and the extra ferrules literally pick up no extra weight in hand or flat/dead spots through the casting stroke.
4. 12'0" 3 it is amazing what that rod will do at 225 grains with a Scandi and 250/275 Skagit. 10' of T11 and a respectable "big nasty" moved 70'-80' effortlessly and easily repeatable.

The other are great too as far as casting. I just don't end up in places like the Rogue, Klamath, Trinity where a good 5 can be a dedicated Summer Steelhead rod or places where plus sized Trout and the 4 weight makes sense.

Will Beulah come out with a G2 in 13'1 for 6 ?

13'1" 6

No immediate plans for a G2 13'1" 6 weight. Onyx is a good rod but sales have been mediocre on that particular stick. Not sure if that is that state of Steelhead numbers and closures or if that particular full flex 6 weight was not all that popular.

I will say that casting our new 12'8" 6 I don't even think about grabbing the 13'1" 6 weight anymore. P.M. me if you are interested?

I was waiting for the 6 wt Beulah G2 spey from a fly shop out West for a couple of months. I was expecting a call, since on this forum I heard Beulah sent more stock out recently. The shop I had contacted still doesn't have one. Must be a popular rod! Beulah's tapers have a great reputation from folks who know spey and fish a lot. This G2 offering must have hit it out of the park! I will own that 6 wt G2 eventually, hopefully before next year.

I finally got my Beulah Platinum G2 12'8" 6 wt. ♥ I've had it out four times. It is a truly sweet, light and crisp rod, beautiful in construction and wonderful in action. As Box of Rain said in another thread, " it casts itself.". I am delighted with it! I am so glad I joined the ranks of Beulah owners. They really know how to design a rod action!

So far the lines I've tried are the Beulah Elixir Spey length 400 gr (nice) and a Rio Scandi 3D F/H/I 390 gr (surprisingly nice). I also want to pair this up with the Rio Scandi body sized to the upper end of the grain window, maybe 425 gr. This approach of using a Scandi body in a Skagit grain weight was described in videos by Ashland Fly Shop and it has worked really well on my trout spey, the Winston BIII TH Micro-spey 4 wt ♥. I am truly blessed to have such rods to fish here in the Great Lakes tributaries. Well done Beulah.

Nothing better than getting a new rod and loving it. Ill try the G2 at some point but for now my Onyx 5124, 7129, and Platinum 6126, 7132, and 8124 are taking up all of my time. I wonder what the relationship is between the Onyx and G2?

GHalliday, I think the cosmetics of the reel seat harkens to the Onyx. You have an amazing quiver of rods. I'm sure the action which so impresses me is the Beulah "design DNA." Your rods have the same wisdom. I don't have your skill, expertise and experience to compare rods, and haven't tried an original platinum, but I'm willing to bet our platinums are more alike than they are different, if you know what I mean. As my first Beulah, in the hands of someone like me without your extensive experience, it arrives without a reference point. I will say your comments about the Beulah rods on Spey Pages convinced me to pull the trigger and get this rod when my darling wife told me she wanted to get me a 6 wt two hander for either our wedding anniversary or for Christmas. I had to wait, but it was well worth it. I'm planning on including swinging for smallmouth on the agenda! Thank you for inspiring me to give Beulah a try without being able to test cast it. I'm so glad I took your lead.

Just got my G2 Platinum 12'8" 6 wt out today. The pond was still covered by skim ice with pools of standing water, so I was able to get somewhat of an anchor set. The rod felt quicker than the first generation Platinums. Snake roll was the best cast I was making, but the single spey was very close. Tomorrow, I should have some real open water and I'll get a better idea. But, right now, I'd say it is a very light-in-hand, quick rod.
