St. Mary's/Superior Trip

I'll be driving my sister up to school in Thunder Bay and then flying home during the first week of September. I'll likely have a few hours to fish during the trip, was looking at St. Mary's or possibly another river somewhere along the way. Any recommendations for flies, equipment or general areas would be appreciated!

Calling Brad is an excellent suggestion, I understand that 6 gates on the dam at the St. Mary's have been open for approx. the whole month of Aug. Its about 3 ft deeper than normal. I don't think that has changed yet. Brad will know.

That's what I was kinda thinking. If they close the gates and the waters dropping, things could be interesting but if it keeps pumping out water then I'm just gonna keep driving

I've never seen it happen, but...
My guess would be as soon as they close the gates the water will drop very fast. Kind of like tailout water levels below a dam. Been told there are two things that can happen, the fish have been washed out of the rapids or they've hunkered down for a month ready to take anything that swims/swings past. One good thing with all the water flowing is that most of the snot should be washed off the rocks.

Any word on the gates? I'm thinking Michipicoten at this time because I heard they're only dropping down to 4 open gates by Sept 1. Has anyone fished the Michipicoten and offer some advice as to equipment/flies etc.
