Smile Fly fishing Califonia

Ladies and gentlemen,

Myself and a lifelong friend from the UK partake on a one week fly fishing trip to a different state every year. Next year he is looking to do the Lake Tahoe Ironman competition on September 22nd 2014. We will then move on to fish for a week somewhere within 200 miles of this area.

I am wondering if anyone can point us to some good Steelhead/Salmon or Trout fishing and lodging that maybe had in that area at that time of year.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Neill

The Truckee is right around Tahoe.

I'm not sure if they are within 200 miles, but the area north of Redding is loaded with very good trout streams.

If you don't want to go far, the Truckee is right there and a very good trout fishery. If you want steelhead there are some options within a 5 hour drive, although if they have an Indian summer it may still be a bit warm by then.

Not sure of the mileage but Yosemite Park! Great stream runs right through it and the surroundings are breathtaking.

It would take you years, if not a lifetime, to explore all the trout water within 200 miles of the North Lake Tahoe area.

Aside from the Truckee, the North Yuba and Carson are fairly close (i.e. under seventy or eighty miles).

A little further afield you have the various forks of the Stanislaus, American river drainage, East & West Walker, upper parts of the North and Middle Feather.

A lot depends on what sort of experience you want. Do you want to be near civilization, do you want to camp, do you want to backpack into a remote area? Fast-action small stream fishing in a secluded area, or a chance for bigger fish but possibly with more crowds?

Thank you all so far, just looking for some fishing, big or small does not matter, the beauty of the surroundings make the fishing good, just want to be out of the way of civilisation/cell phones and enjoy nature, back packing is a possibility but not a neccesity.

As we do a different state every year we vary from 6" trout to 36" Salmon and love all of it, complete catch and release of all those beautiful fish.

Thank you again so far.
