Guidance sought for BC fishing trip and possibility of exchange trip to Ireland

I am due to be in Vancouver from 19th - 26th Sept and keen to sample some of the salmon and steelhead fishing that would be available at that time. I am a regular atlantic salmon angler fishing the Foyle river system in Ireland using a 14" double handed rod . Do any of you folks remember coming on a fishing trip to Ireland several years ago and were hosted by Peter Hannon who recommends I try to hook up with you ?

I would like to get off the beaten track and sample some of the headwaters if possible rather than shoulder to shoulder fishing in the estuaries .

I can offer a reciprocal fishing trip to my home waters in 2014 staying at our holiday home www.thewhitefort.co.uk which is located in the heart of the Foyle River system - see www.loughs-agency.org for more details of fishing on offer. I can arrange fishing on a wide range of public and private beats for atlantic salmon in exchange for similar trip in Canada this autumn.

BC fishing trip

Hi MervynK,
Might be worth giving Steve Munn a shout, he guides guys from Ireland to BC each year and has done so for year, he located around Belfast and works for House of Hardy..... and spent plenty of time in BC fishing over the years.
Cheers Gordon.

Just in case you don't get a favourable response. In BC it's illegal for an angler without a guiding license to accept compensation (money or anything in kind) for the services you seek. By services, I'm assuming you want someone to take you out and guide you. That said, it can be hard to prove plus a lot of legitimate friendships that otherwise would not have formed have been developed in the way you describe. Maybe try contacting licensed guides in the area that you'll be visiting and see if they are interested in a reciprocal agreement? That would be legal.

If you are looking for fishing that would be similar to the fishing you do at home for Atlantics I would suggest that you narrow your search to fish for steelhead, and not bother with salmon. That being said you will have to drive 12 hours north or fly 1.5 hours north to fish for steelhead at that time of year.
BC is a big place and the Vancouver area is not really the place to be during your time here. It is prime time for the Skeena drainage in northern BC however...

The BC Guys have forgotten more than I know but that may be a great time to hire a guide to fish the Harrison for Salmon. Expensive, but the only way to access is by boat. Hint: Full on Cartruse (sp?) green fly done with UV materials! Bonkers! Four of us and odd off if one of us didn't have a 'Fish ON!'

BC fellows here can supply good Guide contact info.

fishing BC

Hi Guys,
I guess I should rephrase my post, he hosts fishing holidays to BC using licensed and insured transport Canada guides, I don't want anybody thinking he does the guiding himself.
